Scientists have frighteningly little imaginative, seemingly as a rule. I laughed at the best NASA could come up with for an encounter between aliens and ourselves: it reads like some sort of poor children's essay.

But we will survive to the end of the universe, so long as we don't meet an Outside Context Problem (one of those "Aztecs are visited by the Spanish" sort of situation) or another disastrous event.

Purely hypothetical, I doubt that will ever come to fruition.

Actually that's another point, we'll have surely evolved past the point of being human over the course of 5 billion years. So that'll leave humans technically extinct by that point.
