I think the EU should slowly transform into one nation. We are in no hurry to scare people by rushing it, however when we eventually are one country we will have one stronger military, one stronger economy, and one stronger presence. All the major wars have started in europe, so wwhy why not try to stop this by talking away the countrys that fight and making one instead. seems a good idea to me.

I think they should, however as seen by human nature and the incompetency of the U.N. No nation will give up it's power and a governing body of delegates doesn't work very well.

No, I doubt it would work. I'm not that into politics and stuff related to that, but considering all the different cultures we've got inside the EU, I think it'll just cause trouble.

I think what we've got now works fine. Free trade and passage between countries is already enough.

No. I doubt anyone want to give away there national herritage they are not longer the British who once had the biggest empire ever. They are no longer France who had a big empire. They are no longer who they want to be they are then just Europeans. Lots of different cultures kicked under one title. It may make them bigger in the military, but in the economy if , the economy falls in Europe it is all fucked but if it only fall in a few countries within the EU they have 1. They have not lost as much money as they would. 2. EU can help them with there economy to an extent.

Of course it does. And Communism is the best form of Government ever because it makes all people equal.

Let's just absorb all the individual charms and histories and quirks of the large percentage of the countries on a continent into one mass of unworking shite.

Just imagine the mess caused by one Government overseeing Europe anyway, parts of western Europe would become as bad as parts of eastern Europe.

It could work, and it could happen, or at least I hope. A sort of federal republic ala U.S. of A. would be great.

Hopefully in our lifetime...

Nah man. Share your defense and economy but still retain your power and individuality as a sovereign state. If you hand yourselves over to a central power you leave yourselves open. Take the Persian Wars. Athens took the Greek alliance and effectively turned it into the Athenian empire, oppressing and bankrupting its subjugated city-states. Then when this Empire threatened the Spartans, they went to war and lost almost everything. Care must be taken and history learnt from.

Yeah. Primitive humans with their little artificial nations.

Probably would take colonization of other planets and/or emergence of advanced aliens before most people were willing to advance the human race at the expense of loyalty to the area in which they were born/raised/moved to.

Perhaps the United Kingdom could start using the Euro as a currency instead of the GBP. Yeah, that might be a good start.

It's loosing a lot of it's power, hell, at this point, the euro and the pound are at pretty much the same level.

Give it another couple of years...

I think the division between the countries of europe at the moment is working.
I dont think that the emergance of another superpower in the world would be of any particular benefit. I agree with the EU, and i think that more European countries should be appart of it.

But personally i think that there would be a power struggle if there was a merging of over 50 countries, as some would want all the power, some wouldn't want the merge and so on.
You also have to remember that as Europe is made up of so many different nations it is also made up of many different cultures and languages, trying to make this multicultural continent into one superpower would be a very hard task indeed.

Would it really be worth it?

Why be a part of the EU if you can't stand the idea of being one nation? You have to submit your national sovreignty to an international body and its policies, abandon your currency and pool your rescources to be a part of it don't you?

is the EU currently a confederation? I'm not sure if I'm asking it right *rubs head*

Also, it'll happen eventually. As technology and communication get better and better, nations grow larger.

Yes, but they don't have Serbia and Bosnia and such to worry about.

This.

Also, if it did happen, say with out civil war, who and how would it be ruled? A rep from each Nation? That would lead to constant rows and nothing would get done. One man? Hello Hitler II!

For those reasons and more; hell to the no!
