There are not enough options in the poll. I'm not from the EU, I don't think a united EU-nation would be a threat, I just can't see any possible way that it could function cohesively, and don't believe that it would ever happen due to the egos of the nations involved.

I think it's a good idea ultimately, so long as it happens with the fair consent of the member nations, and it will need a lot of time.

Whether EU citizens like or realise it, EU states are all each others best friends, most mutually dependent colleagues, and closest allies. The EU needs to work as one. If it cannot, it will end up paralysed and vulnerable to control from other major world powers, who could simply apply a "divide and conquer" strategy - keep the EU from expressing itself just by nobbling a few individual states.

I think it will work. France used to be lots of squabling states and they managed to become one country. lets just do that on a larger scale.

Yeah but both Russia and the US were never independent nations of the scale of Europe. Plus the US did have a civil war.

I'm all for more co-operation between EU countries, maybe even a stronger EU-based government, but I still believe individual countries should keep sovereignty. Each European country has had centuries of sovereign rule; I don't see how any country would ever be able to relinquish that (especially Spain and France, the proud fuckers ;)

The problem with a united Europe is that same old chestnut, disagreement. Europe cant agree on the colour of green. Old rivalries still dominate, most of what Britain wants, France will oppose, Germany-Poland, and as for Turkey wanting in the EU, Screw that!!!

There are other problems too, although most of Europe has adopted the Euro, 1/4 still haven't, theres also the problems of what will the heads of state represent? Most nations are unwilling to dispand the Royal families after hundreds if not thousands of years of traditions.

The current system is good for now, at least its a step forward from feuding states, we can now talk, even if no one listens. The military and economic unions could be a good idea, as long as responsibility, work load and wealth is distributed evenly across the board. Military union might work better, as the success of NATO over the years to co-operate and take on responisibilities is a clear sign that we can work in union.

every major war has come from europe:
ww1
ww2
the napolionic
the cold war
the franco-prussian war
the hundred years war
imagine if we were one country. sure there would be a chance of civil wars but it would be a uch smaller chance than an international war.

well in the early US, states were nearly independant countries with their own laws and currency, and if they didn't like a tax or something, they'd march an army to washington.

What a terrible idea... How would the elections go? People would vote for the candidate from their own country, they would favour their home country. It would literally never work, how can one power govern all of that?

What possible advantages would there be, other than possibly (but almost certainly not) being able to resist any American, Russian or Chinese invasion that would almost certainly never come, and to be honest, wouldn't particularly be a stronger military anyway, let alone a stronger economy. It would just be easier for the rich areas to exploit the poor areas.

Wouldn't stop world wars - they look more like starting in the countries already mentioned and if anything, it would further divide the current countries if there was any perceived injustice, with other areas winning in elections or getting preferential treatment.

What an 'orrible idea.

I think it's a reasonable idea in theory but, given the number of countries involved that have had conflicts in the past, I can't see any way it could work in practice. We'd just end up with a bunch of different factions, all under one government, each fighting for supremacy. National identity is a fiercely guarded thing.

Something I've noticed over the years looking at international politics is that the more you group people together in the world, the more they start to hate each other. Then we're going to start looking at multinational laws that are only going to make more people upset. Unifying the EU like that would only cause tons of problems.

F*ck no. I'm personally not a fan of this one. The EU is corrupt as is, they set guidelines for countries to follow to be accepted into the EU, and look how many times they have broken their own rules and let various countries in? Couple that with the fact that their accounts are hardly ever signed off, among other things...

And people say give it time and the Pound will become weaker than the Euro, but I don't see it. We'll wait it out and see...

I think Europe system is great as it is right now, there's no need to change it. I'm not European, but none of the choices listed reflect my opinion, especially not the last 2, the Not really option is the closest. Europe is very stong right now, and won't be stronger as a big country much harder to administrate with so many different cultures, and might not always live well together, I think it would weaken Europe to become a big country.

Just look at two different European countries, lets say England and France, these two countries have hugely different cultures.

English people dispise the idea of the EU, political parties, such as UKIP, are started just to stop englands involvement with the EU. How would many people would reject to becoming one mass land, especially seeing just how different culturally and economically eastern European countries and western European countries are.
