So even though most of us despise EA and their questionable business practices, and outright tomfuckery with IP's, I have to ask: Would you really want them gone?

I mean sure they ARE bastards but the way I see it their NECESSARY bastards. They've become so huge and encompass so many great IP's and developers that having them gone now would surely spell the end for many of our favorite triple A series under EA's support. More importantly however would be the sheer amount of people left unemployed from such a collapse. It's just not worth it in my opinion. I'd honestly rather see them fall on hard enough times to reconsider their shitty practices than just having them outright gone.

That's the way I see it anyways.
What do you folks think?

I want to yay but if it does happen activision will just replace them.(if valve or google won't take over the world by then)

But then again companies like valve could rehire them and make good games without being dicks about it, so yay.

Nay, because they publish some of my favourite games and series. And I want Mirror's Edge 2, damnit!

Not really, if they fall all their IPs are going to be gobbled up by companies like that other shit stain of a publisher Activision, only making them more powerful, greedy, and stupid, since one of their main competitors would've been eliminated. I just think that it isn't a good thing for innovation and consumer rights to further concentrate power in the industry to even fewer publishers.

I have to vote nay because of the wording of the poll. However, it's not about not wanting them to exist or not, it's the wanting of equal and actual competitive game design that I want. I want these AAA studios to produce content that isn't about a quarterly earning and is about the desire to create games that not only immerse you in a detail rich environment, but stimulate, challenge and offer a compelling and interesting story all while giving you a reason to play the game again. It's a tall order, but in this day and age we've been getting more "business" model game studios (Blizzard, EA, Activision, etc.), and less content driven big-name titles. If there was more direct competition that wasn't hinged on the next great FPS war shooter, subscription based MMO, or the next regurgitation of already-done RTS games then I don't think this type of question would even arise. Even now there is a huge field of games to choose from, and there are many many independent studios that are putting out quality products with deep, addictive play mechanisms and deep engaging stories, it seems to be that the large studios only have the desire to sink the time into a game that is going to have the highest payout, which degrades their reputation.

I know a lot of people would probably disagree, but I like to use the game Bastion as an example for a simple concept, executed very well, with an engaging and relatable story and great graphics that really makes you want to continue to play or play the game again.

Well EA will go into liquidation, and sell off assets like IPs, property, companies they control, anything worth selling really. Then it's a case of who buys it up. At a guess, with instability in THQ, Squeenix staring into the clouds wondering if it's going to rain, and Bethesda think pensively about why people always assume their games will be buggy on release, we get to see a right royal scrap as SCE, Valve, Activision and Microsoft Game Studios fight over which bits they want. Which will be epic, in a long court settlements and economics sort of way.

I think it would be kinda fun. I'm still bitter about ME3 after all.

We're coming up to 6 months since release. Don't you think it's time to let it go?
If one of your parents died in an accident I doubt you would still be bitter after 6 months.

Oh and Nay, I don't think EA going out of business would change anything, Activision would probably be next in line and god knows I don't want to see that.

I'll stop being pissed when EA stops being so fucking smug and proud of their little abomination.

What the ending? I personally don't think EA was behind that, I just think Bioware wanted to do something that wasn't traditional and it went horribly wrong, it's happened before, it was disappointing, and people moved on, we'll become like the Star Wars fanboys who freak out at the mere mention of the phantom menace otherwise.

Nay.

Half my games library has stuff with the EA logo on it somewhere.

As much as I'd love to see them rot in hell for their business practices, I don't want franchises like Dead Space or Mass Effect to follow them into the grave.

EA already destroyed my favorite game developers (Westwood, Maxis, Bioware), so I wouldn't mind to see them go away as well.
Sometimes, it's much more preferable to simply let my favorite IPs rest in peace rather than have their corpses continuously violated.

If they went away I wouldn't lose sleep over it. But for me, it's a case of better the devil you know, then the devil you don't.

I Yeay'd. Not for any particular ethical or business practice reason, I just want to watch the world as it stands burn, and EA is a large enough company to signify the start of it.

I'd prefer bought out by another better company or their parent company than out of business. let someone who cares more a shot at some of the tittles

but that is even less likely than them right out going down
