To quote the Illusive Man:

Why destroy when you can control?

EA holds many of my beloved gaming properties. Improve EA rather than destroy it

If EA falls, either Activision wins or some other company replaces EA. Maybe Square-Enix (which is becoming much like EA) or maybe Ubisoft or maybe Zeni-Max fills that void. We just don't win, and stand to lose.

Instead, support smaller publishers like Atlus. Oh man I love those guys. Let's face it, if there's any company you can point to as 'The Good Guys' in this industry, it's them. They can profit on 100k sales when other companies would go broke with 1million. And yet they make good, high quality games that people LOVE.

EA doesn't need to die--the Good Guys need to flourish.

I dunno about you guys (and gals), but I know what I'll be doing when EA finally bites the big liquidation bullet.

To borrow from that game, a victory over EA would be like the Floating Continent when you finally corner Gestahl and get ready to give him his comeupance.

What happened next?

This is an interesting question, while it would pain me and a lot of other people to EA go the way of the dodo for shamelessly ripping the common punter off and generally making risk-free games - I still have to accept that everyone else seems to be doing it too.

Personally, I think gaming as an industry needs a damn good kick in the arse. Almost every publisher is doing it, relying on zombie franchises and milking it dry. (No pun intended in Capcom's case.)

EA can be saved from itself - just sack it's CEOs and replace them with people who treat customers like valued customers and more importantly giving them a game that's worth the asking price. If they did this, not only would people buy their games - they won't be so tempted to pawn them after a week.

I guess that if they did shut down their best studios would find a home somewhere else. People would jump at the chance to publish Bioware or DICE games. Some franchises will probably be lost, but I can't really think of any I would lose sleep over. I guess there's Burnout, but that series seems dead already, and either way I'm sure Criterion will be one of the studios which another publisher will want to pick up.

Ideally I'd just like EA to stop being dicks, but if it's a choice between them staying as they are or going out of business I think I'd choose the latter.

Seeing as people will lose their jobs in an economy that has seen its better days I see a whole lot of victims just because the community here wants some petty revenge on a company that ruined a few games. Now I must admit that I don't like what EA has done to companies like Pandemic, Westwood or recently PopCap, but I don't see things getting any better even if EA did crash and burn. It's entirely possible that these companies could have failed anyway without EA.

In the long run it could make things better, but I have a feeling that another company would just step into the void EA made and probably be even worse since there's no EA to consume the world's stupidity and lack for regard for customers.

Also an extremely valid point... And I'm not just agreeing with you because Atlus is one of my favorite developers... though it maaaay be part of it :p

I would definitely like to see EA as it currently stands disappear as a company.

That said, I'm somewhat conflicted, if only because I wouldn't want those thousands of jobs created by EA to disappear. There's a great number of talented, motivated people working on EA's dime and they honestly don't deserve to be punished because the management is retarded.

The ideal solution would be to fire everyone that makes 6+ figures and replace them with people who actually know what they're doing and/or have an ounce of moral fiber. That would solve the vast majority of the problems I have with the company.

Nay, there's too much good stuff they'd likely drag to hell with them... If they manage to ruin Mass Effect and SW:TOR for me on the other hand, I'll gladly change my vote to a heartfelt Yay.

No, because it will not change a thing if they fall quickly.

Likely scenario: If EA fails tomorrow, it will be sold to whichever company offers the most money. That company could be Square-Enix, Betheseda, or even Activision-Blizzard. Or it could be Disney, Time Warner, or any other corporation. That company will get all publishing rights to all the IP that EA owns.

Only on the condition all the companies they subsidized get back to making badass games.

I don't care about your opinions of EA but it is a fact that if EA falls, the industry will take a massive hit. EA is one of, if not the, largest publishers in the world and without it a lot of funding will be cut, a lot of jobs will be lost, and a lot of game won't be made.

Yes, in the hopes that it might shake the industry. EA represents so much of what's wrong with gaming that maybe, just maybe if they go belly up the other game developers/publishers might just realize what's going on.

Or they might just blame it on pirates like they do now.

The fall of EA?

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

"The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people, will return to the people."

As much as I don't like them, I can't help but think a void that big, regardless of how soulless and terrible the company is, will have far negative far reaching effects on the industry as a whole. At least for a time, until someone takes their place.

Then we can all hate them and life can go back to normal.

I voted yes, but after I thought about it for a few minutes, I don't want them to go away.
I want them to change back to what they used to be, in terms of what they stood for. I know that will never happen of course, so I guess my "yes" still stands. Oh well.

Yes, they put many great people out of work so goes around comes around. The day EA burns I'll put on my best suit and dance a happy dance all night over the charred remains.
