Poll: The Force Awakens - What are you expecting?

After watching the most recent trailer... The best way I can put it is that it looks unlikely to be Star Wars. I doubt its going to be the prequel trilogy bad, however at the same time it very much looks to just be yet-another-hollywood-blockbuster rather than something more akin to the original trilogy.
I could be wrong, and it could just be the ad intentionally giving that impression to drag the masses in, but I don't think it would have needed to - its kind of a cultural event that everyone almost NEEDS to do anyway, just because of the fame of the series - and as such it strikes me as more likely it'll be another potentially good, but very run-of-the-mill Hollywood, movie, just with a Star Wars skin.

I don't really think that... Watched Empire Strikes back yesterday as part of a binge of all six episodes and to this day it stands out to me as the most warmly obliging and well nuanced elaboration on A New Hope, a great mix of triumph and despair~ And such a cliffhanger, such a raising of stakes~ Great settings, none of which seem shoehorned in or rushed, and great added characters who so naturally float into the plot despite a total lack of reference in the opening film~

The prequel trilogy may have just about tried it's best, but I really didn't like the relationship between the Skywalkers in Revenge of the Sith, and Earl Jones' voice coming out of Hayden's helmet really highlighted the gulf between the Anakin portrayed in the three prequel movies and the Darth Vader of the original three... The first one having progressed from dastardly to darkly brooding in such a well nuanced way... that scene in Return of the Jedi where he has a moment to himself after Luke is taken away being particularly humane despite his concealing helmet~

I dunno, I rate it higher~

I think its going to be awesome but im worried that Disney will try to make it into nerd balm to try and stave off the ravening hoards of inevitably pissed off fan boys and nerd balm is rarely good
i do take issue with the poll however i actually liked the Star Wars prequels i thought they were as good as the original trilogy so while i know what you are going for if i voted for the prequels like i want to it would be against what i think

I have no idea what I'm expecting to be honest.
At times I'm letting the hype get a hold over me and I'm all giddytigaddity (yes it's a word!!) and at times I'm just thinking along the lines of "it's most likely going to suck".
I of course hope it will be good, but as far as expectations go, I am all over the palce at the moment.

Cautiously Optimistic. If it's as good as A new hope, I'll be happy.

But I'll wait and see.

I'm expecting to enjoy it.

Disney quality control is pretty damn good. The only thing I was really concerned with was what the tone was gonna be... Looks good from the trailers, honestly. Looks far better than the prequels by virtue of not offending my eyes alone.

Bring it.

I counted three distinct environments in the trailers.. Tatooine, a lush green planet that might at least be derived the location of the rebel base on Yavin 4 from A New Hope, and a snowy but forested planet. Considering some scenes of X-Wings engaging the remnant [?] forces on the forested planet one thinks it may not be Yavin but some other place like Kashyyyk, the Wookie homeworld...

I think this bodes a bit well, seems like they're not overextending themselves. Time spent in space seems to be kept to a minimum if the trailers are anything to go by, but we see the key characters engaging in wordless moments in at least the first two locations, which suggests the presence of a story...

BTW I detest Von Sydow's "...and the light" narration of the advert, I mean how dry and crackly can you make your voice buddy?

Also, I can only assume the new Sith has no idea what really happened to Vader, and as such is some kind of neo-Sith, a la Neo-Nazis, which might not be the most interesting backstory.

FYI, the planet is Jakku, not Tatooine. Not sure why it isn't, considering that each trilogy previously started on Tatooine, and it's a desert planet anyway, but...meh.

I'm guessing the forest is part of the same snow planet, while I wouldn't be surprised if the third is Yavin IV, or the movie's equivalent of it.

I expect as much as I would expect from a JJ Abrams film. Lens flares and predictable plot twists. Call me jaded, but after that abomination that was a pagan effigy of Wrath of Khan, I have no faith in Abrams at all.

As a long time Star Wars fanatic I hope and pray I'm wrong and that this movie rivals Empire or A New Hope in quality. However, until I see the actual movie itself, I'm keeping my expectations at an all time low.
