Well the Handheld gaming revolution has started a long time back but now there are a few new players on the battlefield.Namely the PSP Go and the iPod.These two are particularly revolutionary due to the fact that they give the player the ability to just log onto the internet and download whatever game you like, like the XBOX LIVE Marketplace.

So, which of these devices do you think will emerge as the global leader???

Personally I prefer the iPod Touch.Due to the multitouch interface and the App Store being really convenient to get games off of, there are thousands of games that are available...most of them for free, thus giving budding game programmers a platform on which to home their skills and there a Bunch of really good free titles out there.Even the Big boys like EA and Gameloft make games that even though a bit expensive are just brilliant in gameplay and design.Well give me your thoughts on the matter!!

Only GBA games, that won't do because I want to be able to play Pokemon Yellow on it.
EDIT: That's the main reason I didn't get a DS.

with any luck handheld consoles will be quickly swept under the table so that they can stop KILLING PROPER GAMING.

The Nintendo DS has already engulfed any previous handheld sales, its the most successful one.
Sure the PSP is great for media, but the range of games it has isnt very good, i do enjoy a few, but the DS actually acts like a HANDHELD GAMING DEVICE instead of a multimedia device.

What do you mean? Do you have a portable 360 the world should know about?

What the fuck is that supposed to mean? There were lots of awesome games on the GBA and slightly less on the DS but they are still awesome.

Though I'm starting to predict the death of handheld gaming, I mean where else could handhelds possibly go? At least consoles and PC have much clearer goals.

As much as I love playing my PSP at home and on a plane or long car trip, it isn't a very good handheld system. Sure, playing honest-to-god regular games like you would on a regular console is great, but that's not what handhelds are for. Handhelds are supposed to be something you pull out, play for 10 minutes while waiting to see the dentist, and turn off. Although I must say Lumines is amazing and does this perfectly.

History favours Nintendo, most likely the future will too.

Look through the history of hand helds and pretty much all of it has various brands competing with Nintendo, none of whom are still in the race. Apple and Sony's products are fairly short term and not their main product line, they might have success now and in the next few years, but once fashion changes or they suffer a dud (PSP go maybe?) they are going to quietly turn and back away from the market.

Ninendo won't, they make games and consoles, it's all they do. They're still going to be doing it some time after their current competitors have given up on it.

Plus they are consistenly innovative and usually ahead of the fashion curve by a couple of years, if not necessarily delivering the most bleeding edge tech, they will have found a way of using their existing tech cleverly and marketably.

I wish, its just that every single game I see for the handheld systems is made of pure, undiluted, unadulterated Fail. Note to handheld fanbois, I have very little interest in hearing you recommend your favourite pieces of pure, undiluted, unadulterated Fail.

The PSP has oodles of potential with what it can handle and how much can be put in the games so I am hoping it will be the future

Nintendo DS will always reign supreme.

It hit the sweet spot of games that you want to buy to play on the go.

Not too complicated games (Like the PSP) and not to "why the fuck did I waste my money on this pointless shit" games (Ipod)
