(If you dont like Resident Evil, Dont post.)

Reading the new Critical Miss made me wonder what my fellow Escapists want in a resident evil game. So I thought id throw together a little poll.

Personally, I want it to go back to the Resi 1 -> Code veronica era. I miss zombies and the survival aspects. The set camera also helped create a creepy atmosphere. The new action aspects of the most recent games just get rid of any possibility of horror for me. Also, having a co-op partner ruins it aswell.

I think the Resident Evil 3.5 project COULD work. (Resident Evil 3.5 is what you know as Resident Evil 4 now. 3.5 had a set camera & over the shoulder. It also had a few supernatural elements in it.)

Guide to the poll:
Classic. Set Camera, T Virus. = Resident Evil 1, 2 , 3 , Veronica ETC ETC
Classic. Over Shoulder, T Virus. = Same atmosphere as above, just over the shoulder.
Classic. Set Camera, Las Plagas. = Same atmosphere as above, just with Las Plagas instead of T Virus.
Classic. Over Shoulder, Las Plagas. = Same atmosphere as above, just with over the shoulder.
New (Action). T Virus. = Basically Resident Evil 4 - 5 with the T Virus instead of Las Plagas.
New (Action). Las Plagas = Resident Evil 4 & 5
Gun Game (T Virus) = Resident Evil Survivor, Dead Aim, Various Arcade games.
Gun Game (Las Plagas) = Same as above, just with Las Plagas instead of T Virus.

I kind of liked 4 and 5, despite me owning RE 1,2,3 Case 0, Code Veronica etc, it was very rare that I actually got super far in any of the games. I think the only game I got near completion was 2. My main problem is that puzzles, while can be interesting for some, really isn't my cup of tea. I really don't like either system of cameras, I definitely want something that is smoother, sure some could argue that if they gave you fluid movements and made it really easy to aim it would take a lot of steam out of the difficulty of the game. And this actually happens to be true (try RE4 on the PC with a mouse patch, it becomes insanely easy.)
But why should my characters walk around like robots or feels so insanely awkward. As soon as I see my character run against a corner or get stuck on a silly object it really pulls me out of the game.

Also, I kind of enjoyed playing the game with another person.
I would really like to see new inventories, I mean common items taking blocks of space is really lame. Like in 5, I can literally hold pounds and pounds of guns in my inventory, but a freaking plant or a vial of healing spray takes up the same space as a rifle. Or the fact that if I have a green vial and I see a green plant I can't combine them unless they are both in my inventory. Why can't I combine an outside item with one in my inventory without sacrificing something and getting stuck with an empty spot because I had to throw something away?

I think the T-virus story should be scrapped and start anew with a Las Plagas storyline, therefore making the games more accessible to newcomers and the old T-virus storyline can be used for background ambience.

RE4 was great, but I didn't take too kindly to RE5.

If they are to make an RE6 or reboot it or whatever, all I want is more stream lined controls, more varied enemies, um... better puzzles, uh...a more user friendly inventory system, and... a slightly more coherent story..huh.

I would like to see it with an over-the-shoulder perspective, but with the T-Virus and original atmosphere. I want lots of zombies onscreen, not just one or two (you know, for RE5 we were promised loads at once and instead got a spattering here and there). I figure that if they're gonna keep co-op (which I hope they do not) slower zombies should make this easier.

A classic over the shoulder. Its can still be scary, but you have better control. Though if you are playing as someone with no military/police training it may be better to have awkward controls to reinforce the players position as an everyman/woman in a shitty situation.

let me put it this way, out of all of them I like res 5 the most. if they can do that with the co-op again I will buy it in an instant.

RE5 style but with T-virus and not plagas
Since I'm apparently the only one who liked it and doesn't ***** about the inventory system since it's easy to get used to and a lot better than going back and fourth threw the menu.

Now I know this is going to get some fan boys angry but isn't it time that Capcom move onto something else.

New action titles like RE4 and 5, but set them in a city.

Not these remote towns and shit.

A FUCKING CITY

I honestly like the direction their taking it now. I mean sure, it's not really scary or anything anymore, but it's still a damned good series, plot-holes be damned. I really miss the old, scary vibe, but that's so far gone from where it is now, there's no point in going back. They'll just mess it up. I say they embrace the new way, and maybe just start a new series when they want to focus on the hardcore horror stuff again.

The problem I have with the new ones is that they are so insanely linear and have basically no storyline. I didnt give a fuck about Sheva or Chris in RE5, I just played from start to finish, put down my controller and then felt a bit annoyed I bought the game instead of renting it. Also, the Nightmare DLC for Re5 was better than the original game. At least it had some damn atmosphere in it and some mild exploration.

I'd like to see a game with the user interface like Re4 but with a co-op mode and the graphics of Re5.

One thing I really would wish they'd do is throw in a bit more variety, instead of just shooting the same 5 infected until reaching destination and repeat.

RE: Code Veronica is the best game of the series, at least if we consider the series a horror game. Capcom invented the horror genre with Resident Evil, it feels wrong to me that they should keep the series name and make it an Action game, but I guess if they are going to do it they should go all the way like they had with last couple of games.

I just don't see why they couldn't make a new action series with zombies without the Resident Evil name, like they did with Onimusha or Devil May Cry. It would be like if Megaman X25 turn out to be a fighting game with Ex-attacks, and Street Fighter 6 was an RPG. Keeping the same series name only works if the game of the same genre, otherwise you're just pissing off fans of the series who would recognize the series name in the first place.

Now if you don't mind I'm going to play Final Fantasy XVI the First Person Shooter.

Really, all I want is for Resident Evil to embrace its destiny and become Planet Terror the game. Honestly, playing through RE:5, that movie was pretty much all I could think of. I love the inherent silliness and cheesiness of Resident Evil, and I think that's its strength.

But I like the controls the way they are. They feel different from the identical shooters out there, which is nice.

RE4 was amazing, the atmosphere, the story, the character's all made the game terrifying and yet irresistible to play, I remember on several occasions on my first play through, not wanting to open the door I knew something was lurking behind but did so anyways just to continue the compelling game. RE5 Unfortunately sets you in a bright open space, the most annoying partner and totally removed any fear or terror that RE4 had masterfully done, all in all RE4 = Awesome RE5 = Less Awesome

I think my lifelong obsession with zombies came from Resident Evil 1, my dad bought it and put it on in the living room (I was but a bairn at the time). Then he came to the first zombie, that little cutscene where it looks up at the camera leaving the corpse it was eating. I'd be a liar if I said that didn't traumatise me and the first resident evil game I could play because of it was 4. Now I know people loved 4 and said it was the best since the original but my exact thoughts when I first played it were "Where are the fucking zombies?". To me when they switched from walking dead to ethnic cleansing they destroyed what made resident evil, resident evil. I mean surely it wasn't about some poxy S.W.A.T. group called S.T.A.R.S. It was about the horror of being surrounded by things that after dying got back up and attempted to eat you and angry Spanish farmers with tentacle monsters in their necks just didn't do that for me.

Then again, what do I know?

Please Remake Resident evil 1.5 (the real Resident evil 2) Capcom. Pretty please, with a cherry on top!
