After seeing the newest release in the spiderman franchise.

i wasn't Wowed by this film.

there were certainly good parts and bad parts.
but to me peter parker didn't feel like peter parker.
The taking credit for others work. the lack of pressure with maintaining the alter ego and his love/work/family.

and his trouble with being able to swing through the city well grated on my nerves some.

yes he had some good acrobatics but he lacked the fluidity of the previous spider mans when swinging from his webs. Which as spider man is a large part of his character.

Yes the TM series had it's problems. But for me it felt more like spider man and peter parker were being true to them selves.

on the whole on the basis of ability and character i much prefer toby over andrew.
maybe they can fix some of these issues in future movies.

I haven't seen the new movie, I'll probably give it a rent when it's released on DVD, but from what I've seen in the trailers this won't be my cup of tea. The whole conspiracy with his parents puts way to much emphasis on the importance of the origin of Spider-Man. I don't know if it's actually like this in the movie, but I always liked that Peter Parker became Spider-Man by accident not because it was meant to be or whatever.

Not that I wanted the Raimi movies to continue, because it was fairly obvious that by the third movie everyone involved was kinda done with it.

Tobey Maguire is one of the best actors of the last ten years, so I'd have to say him, but I havn't seen the new film and I don't remember ever seeing Garfield in anything so he may surprise me.

But I really don't think this can live up to the older spiderman films (well maybe the third one)

I think they were actually trying to lead into a fourth film but that plan was cancelled after the bad reception of 3

I'm entirely in favor of Emma Stone over Kirsten Dunst. Yeah, Wichita....mmmmmm.

Anyway, I think that Tobey was always a little bit off to me as both Peter and Spiderman. I was disappointed by the lack of wisecracks during his fights.

I haven't seen the film yet, but I'm already suspicious of Andrew Garfield as the new Spiderman. I don't really get the 'outsider geek who becomes a hero' vibe that has always defined Peter Parker to me from Garfield, who seems to fit more of a 'smoulderingly attractive cool guy gets superpowers and becomes hotter and cooler' mould. Perhaps this is an unfair judgement to make before seeing the film, but it's still overwhelming.

That, and the fact that the Lizard looks far too much like one of the Goombas from the Super Mario movie, is putting me off a little. The Lizard is probably one of my favourite Spiderman villains, but Goomba-Lizard just looks off.

Still, I'll probably give the film a try.

Well I'm sure they wanted to make more... because they did.

But by the third movie you could see that the steam was running out of this particular interation; Kirsten Dunst was looking old and haggard, and you could tell Tobey Maguire was getting bored by his routine performance. And when people feel the need to write an amnesia subplot into a movie franchise, it's time to throw in the towel.

I got to see it last night, and I prefer Toby. I feel that he brought a realistic side to Spiderman, and pulled off Peter Parker quite well. I don't know what everyone else will think, but I found Andrew Garfield to be rather bland as the new Peter/Spiderman.

And that is what put me off.

That is how Lizard should look I really, really don't like the look of the Lizard in this movie.

Similar to how Venom wasn't very good in Spiderman 3 and Venom is my all time favourite character.

I liked Garfield as Spiderman better; his quips were pretty funny and his fights with the Lizard were just fantastic. However, Toby Mcguire played a more convincing Peter Parker. To me, Mcguire's peter parker seemed like more of a loner, more involved with his family and had less of a chip on his shoulder. He was just a nerd trying to get through life. Garfield's peter parker isn't like that at all. In fact, we don't really get to see all that much of his high school life outside of the requisite bully fight. Amazing Spiderman is totally awesome though and I recommend that you see it.

I worry that this movie's seeming focus on Peter's parents is indicative of the creative team widely missing the point of Spider-Man as a character, to a degree that will render the rest of it unsalvageable; but Raimi's movies are just unbearable to me, so I suppose I can at least take comfort in the knowledge that Spider-Man will make jokes in this new film.

Without a doubt Toby Mcguire. He fit so well in with the character that I actually believed he was Peter Parker. Garfield is a angsty, emo punk for today's teenage audience, and is more like a character from Twilight then Spider Man

I'm wondering how many people that voted actually saw the movie.
The film definitely had more than its share of faults, but I for sure preferred Garfield to McGuire in the Spidey department. He actually moved like Spider-Man, focusing more on speed and agility, and he had a mouth on him, something that Tobey never really let shine.

I'm just upset they never have the coolest looking villains in these live action movies. Like Mysterio, Mr. Freeze, (which might be in the Dark Knight Rises idk) and...that one guy from Iron Man who I can't remember his name.

But I say we make Garfield Spiderman and Mcguire Peter. It's simple since one has a mask. That would be cool right? Right guys? Anyone?

Mr.Freeze is DC. Spider-Man is Marvel. So..No, won't happen. And you think Mysterio was cool? Really? He wore a fishbowl on his head for crying out loud!

(And Freeze was in Batman & Robin..)

I really just wanted to see the special effects and costume for him. Plus his voice was kinda cool. And I know Freeze is DC, I just meant that in Nolan's movies he hasn't shown up yet, and his costume would look amazing if they made it look like Arkham City's.

I just saw The Amazing Spiderman:

Toby made an okay Peter Parker but a meh spiderman.

I found that Garfield did amazing as both. He owned that role + he had excellent chemistry with Emma Stone

*Raises Flame Shield

I thought The Amazing Spiderman was well... amazing.

I have not seen the new spider man movie yet and I'll most likely wait till its out on tv or something because from what I have seen it does not look that good. The trailers have not made it look all that enticing. AG's voice doesn't seem all that good to me and he looks very blah as a character. I do like his wise cracks from the commerical but thats it. TM just seemed to be better at it and I still consider Spiderman 2 to one of the best comic book movies out there (same goes for its game as a movie tie in game).

I just came back from watching the latest film. This one wins out, if only because it helps not to have seen Emo Glee Toby.
