With the new Mortal Kombat game coming up,and having just gone through Super Street Fighter IV, I was wondering if we could decide which fighting game series is regarded as the best one.

I feel very alone on this subject since I have always been a hardcore Mortal Kombat fan. I think that violence is an important thing in a fighting game. The color explosions in the Tekken or Street Fighters series don't say "I just beat your ass" as much as, say, ripping the head of your victim.
Also, the cast in Mortal Kombat is pretty badass. The other series, especially Super Smash Bros, have tons of great iconic characters (even though SSB kinda cheat since the game is a tribute to itself),

One might argue that the Tekken series or Street Fighter series has a more balanced gameplay, and this might be true. But I've learned to love Mortal Kombat after all these years and and I am not gonna changed that because of something as unimportant as gameplay!

PS: I think I included the biggest fighting game series out there. If I forgot your pick... deal with it.

I'm gonna say BlazBlue. I love how free-form the combos are in that game. Street Fighter is a close second, but it has a very very steep learning curve to do what should be simple combos.

gotta say, I'm not a very big fan of 2d fighting games, but the only ones that really held my interest were street fighter and primal rage

I still have fond memories of my whole family sitting in the living room, playing Tekken.

Boxing a Kangaroo never gets old.

I always loved Tekken, ever since my childhood.

And I am addicted to Dark Resurrection on PSP

Hmmm, have you read my mind, because I was about to say something very similar.

I like MK, not a fan of the graphic style though, it would be awesome if they looked more real, like mixing the bleeding and look of there skin from games like UFC10 with the brutality and over the top violence of MK.

I can't do a combo on any fighting game that is more complicated than forward, forward, circle so MK is perfect for that, for (I think) sub zero and scorpion.

Although I am sick of being "juggled", a jab shouldn't be able to launch me back into the air.

I gotta say as much as I enjoy MK and SF from my childhood.. Tekken takes its place as my favourite fighter these days. I like the variety, and the vast skill sets. Takes a fair bit of skill and patience to master each of them.

Or in my case, master a few and button mash the rest of them lol

But, I digress.... I love Alisa :D

Honestly I prefered Dead or Alive.. and not because of the bouncing tits. Smashing people through stuff or off things, 3D space to move in and an emphasis on counters is what I like. Was never really keen on street fighter. I remember Smash Bros was good on the N64, got a bit old after that though.

Love the fast paced style of the ninja types in it:

And you can play as a Spartan in DOA4

Mortal Kombat first, Tekken Close second with Soul Calibur a not close third. Although Clayfighter or maybe Killer Instinct stomps all of them.

If Clayfighter is the game on N64 where you play as a snowman and Earthworm Jim, thank you for the nostalgia-trip.
That game had the worst sound ever though.
