Poll: The Halo Before Halo

I know you guys have heard of Halo (don't act like you don't), but there was a "Halo" before then. It was by Bungie, before they were bought out by Microsoft. It was called Marathon. It came out in 1994 and was a Mac only release. That game was amazing, it brought so many innovations we take for granted now to FPS's. These included reloading, friendly AI, a storyline, dual wielding, MOUSE CONTROL, and an engrossing atmosphere. I loved the game, and it put all of the other FPS's to shame (at least in the storyline portion). Now I really don't know how famous it is now, which is my question: Have you guys ever heard of marathon before this post, or not?http://www.gamerbytes.com/logo.jpg

I love Marathon. I actually didn't know about it until well after playing Halo, but I got Aleph One (Bungie's freeware release of the game) and since then have been enjoying it quite a bit. It's like Halo, but...with story.

I'll deleate the microsucks thing since im getting shit about it

Fine, ive deleated the microsucks part. If you want to play it look up "Aleph one" online, it is pretty fun. Bungie made it free after 2001

Sorry about the microsucks thing, but I'm not a bit ironsights fan mostly because of what it is now. Now people dont use them as often, rendering what they were designed to do (add more depth to gameplay) completely negated

There's actually a map for Halo 1 multiplayer (on PC and you have to find and download the Custom Edition, so maybe not necessarily legitimate) that's very heavily inspired by Marathon.

uuuh, I'm not ashamed that I think bungie was turned in the wrong direction after being bought out by microsoft. They no only had a very good RTS series (Myth) but they also had a FPS series with a very good storyline in the works (Halo was supposed to be tied with marathon). I think their success with Halo CE made microsoft put pressure on them to make only halo games, meaning they never got to become a really good developer, like valve.

Anyone who says Microsucks unironically is showing their young age. Regardless of how you feel about the company's overall direction, the fact that you can't praise something without denigrating everything else is very telling. Whether or not Marathon is a good game and whether or not Bungie's policies resulted in positive results for the gaming culture are two completely different subjects. If this topic was about the latter, the former would be relevant. But since it's not, it just comes across really trollish.
