Wouldn't know. I've (wisely) stuck with Good ol' XP.

Go ahead and call me old. I won't hear you over my WORKING computer.
You might want to get some new fans if they are that loud.

OT: I dual boot 32bit XP and 64bit 7 entirely skipping over Vista. I only use XP for legacy games that are too hard to get running in Vista/7 like Mafia, the KoTORs, the System Shocks etc. Windows 7 for everything else, I haven't had a problem except when it comes to getting my 3G USB modem working, it hates 64bit.

Yeah, because Windows 7 is known to crash repeatedly, oh wait no it isn't.

Thing is, many video games aren't supporting XP, and neither does DirectX 10 and 11. Unless you don't play video games, which is fine.

I used to have Windows XP for quite a few years, and Windows 7 is basically that, but shinier and much faster when booting up and loading things.

My exposure to Vista was very limited. It worked when I used it, but it wasn't as good as XP since nothing is.
I am unfortunately stuck with 7 at the moment. It is a wretched abomination. it's like if you took XP, gutted it of everything that worked, and made it into a slightly less crappy mac.
How exactly doesn't it work? I have Windows 7 on my computer AND my incredibly old laptop, and I've had no problems so far.
It's slow, freezes up frequently, tons of programs refuse to work for it, programs crash frequently, the interface just isn't as good as XP, or *Chuckle* 98 for that matter.

I think I got off lucky, I went straight from XP to Windows 7. There are programs (e.g. Classic Shell) which gives you back some of the functions (especially interface-wise) you may have missed in XP, so you get the best of both worlds.

Windows 7 is the new XP.

Granted XP is still one of the best OS's ever created, I'd much rather go with 7.

EDIT: for those saying W7 is a crap version of XP, and it's always locking up or whatever.

It's cause your pc is shite.

As someone with a 1gb ram(yep that low) laptop vista actually ran pretty good, I could run command and conquer 3 and starcraft 2 with it. Never actually had a crash until I tried to keep itunes, SC2, and a few tabs on firefox open.

Vista has been nothing but awesome for me. Using XP is awkward for me now, and 7 just feels the same.

The only crashes I have seen on both Vista and 7 have been related to faulty RAM and have all been solved by getting the RAM replaced (warranty). I have used XP since it was called Whistler (pre release I got from a shady friend) and I have never trusted it to just work. Sure, it was the best to game on in its day but it has never been good. It would crash applications all to often and we all know about BSODs.
The only reasons to stay with XP is if you are 50+ and reluctant to learn anything new or too broke to get 7. If you really really really need XP for something that won't run on 7 you can get XP SP3 for free for your Virtual PC from the MS site.

If you are living with XP you are living in the past. It's vulnerable, unstable and slow. It's not a good OS, specially not in 2010.

I'm still using Vista on my laptop, but I have 7 on my desktop, and while I prefer 7, I don't have a problem with Vista for most mainstream things. Just sayin.

I'd rather wait till I need a new laptop before getting W7. I've never actually had a problem with Vista honestly. I just get annoyed with all the security pop ups.

I've never used 7, but I've been using Vista for as long as I've been using this computer, and my only major complaint is that Windows Media Player takes too damn long to start working.

Used Vista like once of someone's laptop. Didn't like it.

Should be getting my own sexy laptop tomorrow, with Windows 7. I plan on loving it.

7 works too. Better, in fact.

OT: I freaking love 7. It's fast, sleek and runs nearly everything.

Windows 7 is miles better than Vista could ever hope to be. They fixed a lot of what went wrong with Vista, and new features from the list of "Why wasn't this here earlier?"

I never really had a problem with Vista except on my crappy home desktop, but I got Win7 for my laptop (as an upgrade covered with my laptop purchase), and I was able to get Win7 for free for my desktop, too (hooray, university partnerships with Microsoft!). My desktop seems to be running a bit better, but other than that, I'm really not noticing that big of a difference in it, though. I still think it's nicer, though, and programs do seem to run faster.

I really can't compare it to XP, though, as I only ran XP through a piece-of-trash eMachines. Worst. Computer. Ever. It sucked more than the MS-DOS I used to have.
