This question sucks, it always depends on my mood.

So I'll have to go with 50/50.

The human race is a wondrous thing.

We're capable of so much on this planet, why whould we believe otherwise?

Have faith in our race, we will persevere.
You know what, screw meta and his Escapist is angsty teens/spontaneous anime bashing, you get the prize!

Really, while we have done plenty of bad things, we truly are an ingenious, creative species. We have created great buildings both old (many Cathedrals) and new (just look at how common skyscrapers are), not to mention our artistic and technological achievements (and the marriage of the two that is video games). Most people who whine about how humans are bastards are trying to be edgy, teen or no.

I believe in the end nature kills us all and keeps on living on her own without a lifeform.
Sad but the planet just sees us as a pile of junk that needs to be cleaned.

A prize, eh?

Is it bronzed, a cookie or a coveted interwebz?

I love our sense of architecture. My city has an older district with obvious victorian influences. I love strolling through it in the fall to see the colours.

Even out of our perceived evils, we've advanced. We almost always take the lemons and make sweet sweet lemonade whether it be medical advances, cultural nuances and art or even the internet itself!

I'm a proud member of our species.

EDIT: Ah, yes, I forget myself. The poll is reasonably even, I would say. We have a good deal of people who aren't misanthropic. Or at least feigning to be.

Too pessimistic for my taste. Humanity is far more adaptable and powerful than anyone here is able to grasp...

Your prize is a bronzed interwebz made out of cookies.

And yes, our sense of architecture really is great. Hell, as much as people here like to bash religion, the Catholics really made some incredible things. I know I already said that, but it deserves restating.

Wait...this is a race? Shit, I think I've already lost :(
/bad joke

OT: We can do better. Too bad people (like me) are too lazy to try to change anything for the better.

We'll be alright. I mean we can't sit around bitching about how bad the human race is because then we'd only be contributing to the problem. With education, political awareness and a more profound respect for the earth having developed over the past few decades we're slowly building a better world. And yes I could not have sounded anymore like some peace pipe smoking, tree hugging hippy.

I can't help but look at all the glorious achievements of humanity and how far we have come as a species. We can adapt to nearly anything. We have done things once considered to be impossible by our species. Nobody knows for sure what the future will bring, but I highly doubt that the extinction of our species is coming. We have survived through horrible events before. We can survive through horrible events again.

If there is anything that I believe will bring about the end of the human race it is pessimism. For in my experience pessimists are the type of people that do little to help others simply because they believe that it makes no difference. I believe that way of thinking is the only thing that could truly doom the human race.

I'm actually fairly optimistic about the future of the human race, because I know that if there's one common trait that all humans share it's bloodymindedness. We're stubborn enough that despite nature's best efforts we're still here and somehow thriving. Think of all that we've achieved in the past two-hundred years, let alone the past two-thousand. We've done things that many thought impossible beforehand. If humanity is doomed and it turns out we're all going to die then I doubt it'd be through a situation we'd be able to do much about anyway.

1. The human race today is more tolerable than it has been from 40-5000 years ago (I don't even need to remind you why).

2. If we are all "heading toward the point of no return", then why is everyone complaining about our eventual demise rather than helping each other out for a more brighter future, or at least making the most of it?

As it was said before; "It's only happening because we are allowing it to."

Damn pessimists.
