Poll: The Loss of Splitscreen

I do enjoy those little platformers that have two players sharing the same screen, but split screen is cool too.
I remember seeing it in Road Rash II years back. It was so awesome to catch up with your mate then see yourself shoot past on his half of the screen. /gggggggg >

at least halo still supports 4 player splitscreen. If cod had splitscreen online I'd play that all the time with my friends.

L4D1/2, UT3 has unofficial split screen support. Which I've tried and it worked fine. UT3 is quite good to play against someone like this.

Is it not to do with developers putting so much focus on graphics that the console can't run split-screen, so they simply do away with it?

In any case, I want split-screen back. I generally hang out with my friends rather than play them on XBL or PSN, and would appreciate split-screen.
