You would think that, but if someone expected me to wait on them hand and foot because of a little cold, I'd tell them to man the fuck up. If it was the Flu on the other hand... Now that shit is serious.
Because you can successfully diagnose flu as opposed to a cold yes?
Well if they are vomiting, and have genuinely severe sypmtoms, then yes, they get sympathy and help from me. If it's just a little cough and sniffle, then no.

"Does zinc affect the symptoms of the common cold?" Only high quality studies were included wherein people were given zinc or a placebo, but neither they nor the scientists knew which until afterwards.
It's known as a double blind study.

Yes I would if there continues to be testing done that shows a strong positive correlation, but not until it shows more promise.

No one is going to put on a little bit of a cough and a sniffle and expect to be waited on. The whole point is that you get a little cough and sniffle and then decide to put on a massive show of how ill you feel and have an awful headache and your head is swimming and etc etc. As Baconsarnie correctly surmised I'm really talking about 'man flu' here but it's basically the same thing, minor illness hammed up for sympathy and lazyness.
I got that it was about 'man flu'. But I have personal grievances with people I'm supposed to trust lie to me and try to cheat me into doing stuff for them. Maybe it's just me and I'm being too harsh, or I'm looking too much into it, but I don't like it when people pretend to be seriously ill. If they make me worry about them for no reason it annoys me and makes me feel a tad bit used.

And I get that you were trying to make a joke, And I was trying to make a joke based off of yours, and that this has pretty much gone down hill :/

I would've thought that solid Zn would be hard to chew...

Pure metals are soft.

Also, this sounds fishy to me, but I wouldn't be all that surprised if it was true. There are plenty of other seemingly strange things people need to eat, so why not zinc?

Wrong...winge and cry about it ad nauseum and lie in bed all day while you get your girlfriend/wife or mom to make you cups of tea/coffee/lemon and honey and soup etc. You get waited on hand and foot while she gets to roll eyes and feel all superior. Everybody wins.
Exactly this.

For some reason, I knew this would be David Mitchell.

True, (more so in some cases), but there's chewy soft... and then there's 'soft metal'. The heavier alkali metals are probably the only ones actually soft enough for your teeth to get through... but I highly doubt you'd want to put francium anywhere near your mouth.

OT: Fairly sure there're going to be cases of zinc toxicosis if people take this up a bit too much.
