Someone nearly forgotten today - Kain from Legacy of Kain.

I personally liked Raziel more but Kain was alright.

Raziel was awesome (as well as most of the cast), however I am not sure he classifies as badass.

Well he goes around telling all sorts of very powerful people just where they can shove their power. And eating creature's souls. Plus the soul reaver is possibly one of the coolest blades in gaming imo.

The most badass gaming characters are Soap and Max Payne. Soap tackles a running guy through a window. Who the hell does that?

Max goes through the most impossible situations, suffers from countless physical and mental injuries, has the most cynical personality ever, has sex in a back alley while the bad guys are in pursuit of him and always speaks in metaphors. Not to mention he can kill 7 guys in 5 seconds. Don't tell me he's not the coolest gaming character ever.

[General Vagueness]

I'd say the Master Chief, Kratos, or one of the Belmonts (dude in the first game you fall like 200 feet and just get up like it was a paper cut, and by the end of any of the games you must have been burned, slashed, and stabbed to the point of looking like human hamburger), with the Doomguy getting an honorable mention for not really being a character but having literally fought through Hell at least twice.

Im sorry,by the body count,you pick Master Chief!? You have obviously never played God of War 1&2. In the opening scene of the second one,Kratos wipes out a good half of a city! And keeping in mind that God of War is a longer game (GoW1 longer then Halo1 etc.),the body count HAS TO GO TO KRATOS! Also,Kratos escapes hell kills Zeus,Aeries,Medusa,Icarus,and plenty others from greek mythology,so the baddest of asses...........KRATOS!!!

I chose Kratos because he gets all the bitches, i would have chose Alex Mercer though, but he is complaining a little too much of how bad ass he became

My personal choice, Ryu Hayabusa. He takes on God-Like creatures with melee weapons, and the simplest of spells.
