Yeeeeah, so why is no-one asking the wife what she wants to do? If I was her, I'd definitely sleep with the guard to save the kid. Who wouldn't?

Err... It is in no way obvious that you'll end up dying if you fight back. If the soldier was a tough-guy, then he wouldn't give anyone a choice. Also, he can't shoot everyone at the same time. If he ends up shooting me, then I'm sure the woman - or someone else - will care for my child in my stead. And if he does end up shooting me, then that only means the rest of them are free to jump him while he's busy. Women and children can beat people too, you know. You don't have to have functional testicles in order to be able to disrupt someone.

For me, it wouldn't be much of a choice. I wouldn't be able to just stand by and watch in a situation like that. Solidarity, brethren!

That's likely not really what she wants to do, though, but rather what she feels forced to do. And then it's just rape minus the violence.

Yup, this - he wants to rape her, he's going to make himself vulnerable. THAT is when you hit him with a tire iron/rock/his own gun (until the bubbles stop, of course) and carve RAPIST onto his forehead, before leaving him in whatever highly undignified state you can think of for the vultures.

Unless I misread there is only one armed guard. Let him begin the raping and while his is distracted, bash his brains out and take his gun and ammo: DUN DA DUN! Protection!

I'd say allow the rape to occur, granted, rape is a horrific crime but at the end of the day the harm is less than if he decides to empty a few rounds into you (what would you rather have, one violated person of one or more dead people?).

The rape victim will recover but a dead guy won't.

You did misread. Only one guard is checking the truck, but there are other guards in the area. Maybe not the immediate area, but gun shots can be heard from a ways away. That is why the guard may back down, because he knows a commotion will attract attention from his superiors.

Drop kick that fool like there's no tomorrow.

Then again, I am the Batman, so perhaps this situation isn't as difficult for me...

ah yeah, I've seen the Kite Runner, incredible film.

I'd probably stand up to the soldier - wouldn't want to show my son that standing back and letting injustice win is ok.

This seems the obvious solution. That's the thing with these moral quandries. They only give you two choices, but there's always a third option.

In that case how is he going to go about raping the lady?
Wouldn't they notice him dragging a helpless person away from the vehicle he just went to inspect?
Or are they not quite that close?

'Cause if they aren't, like I said: Strangling.
Who said he had to take her 10 meters outside the truck? For that matter, he could just close the door, and do it right behind the truck without moving far. Let's say the guard's outpost is just a hundred feet away.

I stand by the woman on whatever she thinks is right. If she's willing to take the sacrifice, it's because she loves her family. If not, it's because she's scared. And nobody should force her then. Although...:

Although if I had time and couldn't be seen, I'd tape him and slowly kill him. Let him know how it feels.

If you think the film is good i recommend you read the book. The film is a travesty when you've read the book, which was written first.
