Dunno how long this will stay open since the Mods don't care for Vs. threads but I prefer RPG's. I always liked the long quests and story driven aspect of it

Mine, is either RPG or FPS. But I thought you were asking what I thought the most popular genre was, so I put RPG

Shooters (both FPS and TPS) and RPGs are actually developing to be better and better every year. Good examples on combinations of the two will hopefully be: Mass Effect 3, Bioshock: Infinite, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and hopefully some other gems.

RPGs, then platformers (3D platformers, not 2D), then...action-adventure I guess. That's another ambiguous genre.

I guess I am the only one who loves platform games with lots of item hunting. Its a dead genere but I still love it I play my n64 for banjo kaz and donkey kong 64 or supermario 64 all the time I miss those games :(

with those dead I tend to play lots of free roam games like saints row 2 or puzzle games like limbo or ilomilo

I like my favoured genres rather equally: RPG's; FPS's; and RTS's (though it's generally limited to the CA TW franchise, with a couple of others here and there).

Were I to make a choice, then... oh bugger, third-person AA...

Wish I could've chose more than one. RPG first, then FPS, since most of my favorite games combine elements of one or the other. Tanakh's right though, a good game can surpass its genre. Someone might generally prefer action movies, but it's hard to deny Citizen Kane or Psycho their merit.

Also...the poll title's kinda contrary to your post. Confused me a little.

I'll prety much play anything. A great game is a great game so I spent a fair bit of time in each genre.

I probably spend the most time with RPGs but that's basically because:
1. I don't play multiplayer and RPGs tend to have the longest single player experiences
2. "RPG" is so broad that it includes everything from the Elder Scrolls games to Deus Ex to Mass Effect

What would I like to play more of though? Survival Horror. We're lucky if we get one good survival horror game per year.

FPS

Especially online. Online FPS is a constant challenge and is the reason when I'm playing other single player games I think about how this is wasting precious time mastering the online world!

It's sickness.

One: Look at my post, right above yours.

Two: Alice: Madness Returns is a good 3D platformer. It doesn't have the lighthearted atmosphere of Banjo-Kazooie or Super Mario and Donkey Kong 64, but the gameplay is sort of a callback to that style of game.

You also didn't mention Psychonauts. It's from the last generation, but still holds up very well.

One: your post wasnt there till after I had posted mine because pages do not auto refresh...

Two: You managed to squeeze out 2 titles over the time period of 2 gens I think thats fairly dead I mean it isnt a fully dead genere but its bearly touched thats for sure and the titles that do come out arnt nearly as good as the older ones. These days most titles are either fps, rpg, hack n slash or a combination of them. The other generes are there but are not as explored or touched on as they could be thats for sure...

Wups, I probably shouldn't have done the whole "One: (point) Two: (point)" thing. It makes everything sound contentious, which wasn't my intent.

I was just trying to say you're not alone in still loving the genre, and mentioned Madness Returns and Psychonauts in case you hadn't played them. I'm definitely not trying to argue that the genre isn't dead.
