Ok this is prompted by something I saw on Steam today. The Arkham City Skins DLC.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/200860/

7 wonderful skins, with the epic tagline of "The seven Batman skins can be used in storyline mode upon completion of main story and all challenge maps."

Dear Arkham City, You aren't really worth a replay. Neither was Arkham Asylum.

And I thought "surely now this is just becoming a ridiculous cash-grab".

What's the most ridiculous DLC you've ever seen?

If skins in LoL count, then yes, I've gotten a few. If not, discount one YES vote.
oh, and I second the guy above me for the rediculous bit.

Cosmetic DLC really depends on the price for me. If it's like the 50 cent characters in Uncharted 3, I have no problem with them.

As far as the most ridiculous DLC goes? Well, I would say Horse Armor but that's too easy. Okay, any DLC that's announced before the game is released. Like the Exiled Prince DLC from DA2. That was bullshit right there, the DLC wasn't even worth the money on it's own and it was obviously just a chunk of game they cut out to sell right back to you. Sebastian was a terrible character as well.

Horse Armour and Railworks DLC, it's near £1000 for all of it.
Isn't railworks geared towards a model train set on your PC? It kinda makes sense for the..enthusiast. Who doesn't have access to a hobby store. I've always seen it as ridiculous, but with a niche.

Saints Row 3 DLC.
Love the game, but come on, £1.50 for a weapon and a costume? Surely you jest!

Catwoman.

I realise why they did it, but it created something of a sour taste.

Cosmetic DLC.

There is no way on God's green earth or in Hell or in Heaven or in wherever the hell else you can think of that I will ever, ever pay for something that does not actually enhance or change my game in the least. Not a single penny, especially for something that should have been included as unlockable rewards for being good at the game instead of having too much extra cash.

What's most ridiculous about this is that people actually pay for things like weapon and character skins. Just skins! Nothing that gives you an edge, or unlocks an extra side mission, or changes something about your character! Just skins!

I think Penny arcade or Extra Credits had a highlight on a monocle in a certain game. Purely cosmetic, almost unnoticeable. $50.

Actually, some people consider that the best kind of cash-up-front content, at least for massively multiplayer games. The desire to be unique is strong, and it certainly beats Pay-to-Win schemes.

Not entirely serious, maybe.

*shrug* I pay for skins in Killing Floor to support the devs for making a game I like a lot and doing a good job of bringing extra relevant content to the game for free. I know the skins don't do anything at all, but I buy them to show my support for them.

OT: Any DLC which is cut content from the base game to be sold back to you is a real shitsucker. "DLC" you get for free for buying the game new is one things (Catwoman, for example) Then there's Day 1 DLC which is obviously cut content from the game, but needs to be purchased by everyone, and that's the DLC I personally find to be ridiculous and a parody of what DLC actually should be.

Fair enough, but I buy DLC that actually contributes to the gameplay experience. I feel that I've supported the devs for making a good game for buying the thing in the first place. -_-'

You know what I mean? I've paid them for the core block of gameplay, any other money that I pay them has to be in return for something meaningful, not a new pair of underpants, as the DLC in the OP was.

If I like the cosmetics and the price is right, sure. I've bought armour in MMOs to use in the appearance slot only. I've got a few of the alternate outfits from ME2. I am certainly not against the idea. In fact, if Arkham City came out with a cosmetic pack that put Catwoman in her purple costume, I'd be far more likely to play the game.

In-game gold and cheats, that is just evil genius marketing, lock down all commands so you can sell them extra... no work all money, beautiful.

As for cosmetics, no I never buy them simply on price, that one model isn't worth 5-15$.
And if you are buying them then you are establishing a very clear message, they can make more money on item money hustling then developing a proper game.

Depends.

If theres 2 currency in the game (You know, pay £10 for 2000 special points or whatever) ill buy cosmetic things sometimes. But nothing as simple as a weapon skin, that's simply daft.

I Must say, Black ops DLC is beond insane.

£11.99 for One zombies map, and 3 multiplayer maps? Are you kidding? The entire game costed that at one point in the Christmas sales.

£11.99?!!?!?! Oh Activision, you so silly!

Horse Armor.

Just say those two words out loud and tell me the feeling it leaves you with.

LOL absurdity is what I'm left with...
