Keep in mind, "murder" and "kill" are two different things. Murder is done out of hate, killing is done out of duty. None of our soldiers overseas are "murdering" ISIS members, our soldiers are killing them.

There's a government. It's just that murder is legal as any other legal act. So, I imagine the rich and powerful of very trusted and well-paid bodyguards protecting them.MeatMachine said:In other words, there is no government.KissingSunlight said:Suppose that your government has declared that murder is legal. No, I would not murder anyone, or even commit any act of unprovoked aggression that wasn't necessitated out of a desperate sense of self-preservation. In this scenario, I would immediately seek to enlist in an ethically-responsible militia unit that seeks to reinstate civil law. These groups will inevitably form very quickly in the sudden case of total anarchy, and would be the best option for my own security and moral integrity.
Sorry if I'm being too pragmatic to answer the nature of the question.
No, if murder was legalized, then the government would cease to exist. Government is, ultimately, the forfeiture of personal freedoms given to a public institution that holds the monopoly on justified aggressive violence; giving up one's right to murder is the very first cornerstone of legitimizing government in the social contract, as Rousseau lays out.KissingSunlight said:There's a government. What value would money have to anyone when you can just kill for what you want? The U.S. Dollar is "fiat money", meaning that it is backed purely by debt and trust, rather than concrete value such as gold or silver. If you can LEGALLY just slit someone's throat over a loaf of bread, then debt and trust have ceased to be relevant in any way, and offering people money would not buy anyone's loyalty.KissingSunlight said:So, I imagine the rich and powerful of very trusted and well-paid bodyguards protecting them.
