So... it's the sequel that Bioshock 2 should have been?

Okay, I can get on board with that.

So long as they don't just copy-paste Bioshock's gameplay and put it in the clouds, then I'm optimistic.

Also, I agree with the people saying that they should have called it Aeroshock or something similar. But hey, it's just a title, right?

Agreed. It is about as close to Bioshock as System Shock.

I like the idea, but feel it would be better if they changed the Bio for something different, in the way SystemShock became BioShock.

Then you could have as many games with as many amazing settings as you want, without losing the theme or being forced into a single timeline.
Exactly. I don't get why they chose to call it Bioshock when it contains nothing that people relate with the series.

2K may think of Plasmids and SteamPunk as what defines the series, but what most players and fans associate with it is Rapture, Andrew Ryan, Big Daddies and Little Sisters.

I think the reason it retains "Bioshock" in its name is cause maybe 2K are going redefine the Bioshock games as a series of games set in awesome cities located in bizzare places with some steampunk, biopunk, dieselpunk or cyberpunk in it. Of course that just my opinion.

Irrational still has a long time to change the name so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

If it leads to Chris Remo's (now at Irrational) BioShock 5: The Moon (as foretold in the holy word of Idle Thumbs Podcast 26: Liftin the 'Bargo, which as correctly predicted SkyoShock), then I'm all for it.

Seriously, I think this pretty cool. I wasn't interested in BioShock until everyone told me how great it was, and I still found it a little underwhelming. I'm actually excited for this.
LunarShock?

OT: Might get it, if the name changes. Irrational seems to have forgotten what BioShock's gimmick was. Make it -something that has to do with the sky-Shock and BOOM, you have a spiritual successor!

Wasnt that rose telekinesis a plasmid? and that metal golem that attacks you looked pretty big something to me. Rapture was a nice place to set a game, but this steampunk flying city looks good to. All in all, i cant wait.

It's a very different setting from the other Bioshocks, so I'll keep an eye on it. I always keep an eye on ANYTHING different though, because I'm always a big fan of innovation. Hopefully it doesn't fall victim to the rule that "All 3rd everythings must suck" though.

Certainly looks interesting. I wonder if it's in the same universe as Bioshock (or is it just using the name), which makes me wonder how Bioshock links into all this. Yes, I'd like to think their are at least some similarities between them both, even if it's an offhand mention of Andrew Ryan dissapearing.

Cool.
Aw man! C'mon! Retro-future again?! This is not the past y'know?
When are they going to kill this fad off? Why not settle either on a past setting or a future setting?
Besides, the real, actual future is just around the corner, why not make a game about that instead? Oh they did... right.

To anyone saying this isn't Bioshock.

"BioShock is so much more than a story of a single place or a single time. We had so much more we wanted to say.

There are two core principles for us that define a BioShock game. First, it has to be set in a world that is both fantastical and yet also grounded in the human experience. Second, it has to provide gamers with a large set of tools, and then set them loose in an environment that empowers them to solve problems in their own way."

I think the sequel (not really sanctioned by the creative lead of the first) just gave people the impression that Bioshock = Rapture. If anything, Bioshock should have just been called Bioshock: Return to Rapture or some such.

I was telling my friends that the next Bioshock should leave Rapture and come to the surface, but not floating above the surface!!!

If they had I would have a bit of faith in it. As it stands right now I can't be certain that they aren't trying to cash in on the Bioshock name without adding any substance.

It looks cool but I don't have nearly enough information to judge any part of it right now other than the art direction, which is looking good.
YEah, this is basically it. After the colossal disappointment that was Bioshock 2, its nice to see them take the series in a different direction, but Im not making any judgments until I have more info.

I think it was Bioshock because of Biology, which the entire series was centered around fucking with. Thats what plasmids were, drugs that fucked up our genetics.

Also, I think they know what players associate with Bioshock, and I agree that Ryan, Big Daddies, Rapture, and all of that is what I think of when I think Bioshock, but its good to leave that behind now. It looks like thevye decided to leave rapture and move on, try to take the series to a different location and give a different plot and everything, because Rapture has all been used up. Im sure there will be nods and tie ins and references, but I think theyre doing the right thing leaving Rapture.

I think we should just retcon BioShock 2. The story wasn't really important at all to what the series (Even though it never needed to be a series) is apparently about. Oh well, it's back in the hands of the people who fucking delivered magic with BioShock 1, and I trust them.

I have high hopes for this game. Just seeing BioShock and Irrational Games back together is enough for me to inflate my expectations to new... inflated rates.

And my god that last paragraph was unintentionally punny.

I am intrigued by what I've seen thus far. One thing I will give Irrational is that they know how to make an involving trailer, giving you just enough to be waiting to see more. As it stands, I am probably going to be picking up the game, loved Bioshock and also enjoyed Bioshock 2, wasn't as good as the original, but really how do you surpass something as stellar as Bioshock?

As for the discussion going on about the name - welcome to video game franchising. To be upset about that name is kind of parallel to being upset for Square-Enix to keep using "Final Fantasy" for games that are wholly separate, sans for a few reoccurring names and premises. It's obvious this is going to be an ongoing IP so chances of them renaming it are null.
