let me set the context, I have a friend in 40 Commando, and if your not British or don't follow the news, they are getting slaughtered. 4 dead in the last week, and that figure is liable to be out of date soon.

So with friends and loved ones being brought home in cold steel boxes every day, is the new Medal of Honour game, which allows people to fight as the Taliban against the Coalition Forces in Helmand province, where my friend is fighting now, today, offensive to anyone else?

I understand that games need to be a bit naughty to get attention (vis a vie modern warfare 2) but I won't be buying Medal of Honour. Its... well it makes me feel nausous turning on the news and waiting for a name i know to be listed, so why should some game devolper who wanks off to clips on youtube of IEDs destroying Humvees get my money?

I see no problem with it, you can't find this war game more distasteful than others just because you know people in it.

Either you find war as a game fine or you don't, you can't pick and choose which wars to get offended about.

I agree with Furburt. I don't see why setting a war game in a modern conflict is more objectionable than setting it in a historical one like World War 2. People still died, and I don't see why it's somehow different just because of the amount of time that's passed. As long as it's handled correctly, I don't see anything wrong with it. A game is a game. If you don't want to buy it for whatever reason, that's fine.

Most video games based on historical happenings are invariably going to be offensive. Imagine if this game was made 30 years after the Afghanistan war - is it alright then? And aren't the other games offensive to you?

The only thing that's going to be possibly offensive is the possibility of an extremely insane, out-of-proportion death toll.

Edit: I also thought the 4 killed men drowned when their vehicle went into water - I wouldn't count that as "slaughter".

Did you ever play as OpFor in COD4? Same thing really. Except it was obviously Iraq, and obviously the Iraqi army you were fighting.

I don't find it offensive or tastless. I've got 2 friends about to go to Afghanistan, 1 due to come back, and 1 just finishing training, as is probably going to be posted out there next year. It's not like it's some kind of anti-forces hate message.

well personly i would play this game cause i find its about time that a game company has gone completely out to left field and made a game where your the "bad" guys (note that the "bad" is like that since realy everyone should stay the heck out of another countries shit and let the country solve its own problems), back on topic it sounds like it would be worth giving the game a try since it seems like a change in apce to the normal "your an american hero save the day now then we can all go home and get cookies and hookers" <----- just my personal take on the current FPS genre story lines, allthough BC2 had an awsome hippy in it

Fun fact: OpFor is short for "Opposing Force" which in US army wargames is the name of the "enemy" team.

I know what it means. The main point was that it's a glaringly obvious reference to the Iraq war.

Its a game, get over it. The only thing insensitive about it is the fact that they're just bleeding the FPS genre dry.

For Afghanistan? That wasn't to solve its problems, that was to take down Al-Qaeda, as part of the "War on Terror", since the Taliban regime were fine with them.

The game isn't any more offensive than any game where you gun down hundreds of russians, germans or japanese. They got over it, so will you.

There are people with friends and family in the Taliban forces, is it offensive that in a game you can play as British and American forces against them? Not to the vast majority of western society. However, when it is reversed, it becomes offensive to many. Purely objectively, this is flawed thinking. Of course, nothing is fully objective, and subjectively it makes perfect sense. If you were to say that the game should be banned or barred from production, I would have no sympathy. However, in your personal offense, I can see where you're coming from.

Modern Warfare 2 stepped on a lot of toes, the civilian level being one of them, but that's what terrorists do. They kill to terrorize other into bowing to them. Something like the airport is not unfathomable.

Me, playing as the radical Muslims was a tad unnerving since I can't stand them by any stretch, but considering you are playing as opposing forces in any war based multiplayer, it's evil in context only.

Medal of Honor has always been about accuracy to history, the Derflacktern level in Airborne notwithstanding, and something like this is historical, not naughty. Yes, it's disgusting to think of playing as the Taliban when they're our current enemy, but it's a game based on a war, so offense will be there.

Where's the option for NO, it's not offensive, but I still won't be buying it as I'm sick of "Modern Warfare" FPS's.

I'm not exactly all that big on morals, the reason putting me off from buying is because it just looks stupid and just as generic as others that have been done better
