The "winner" for this generation of consoles is debatably nintendo simply because they have sold the most units and made the most money. They did so because they appealed to the family market and made their console very cheap to make. In second, in terms of profits, come Microsoft, owing to their fairly insubstantial losses on the actual xbox and shameless milking of the prices of accessories such as wireless adapters and gold XBL membership. In third come Sony with their larger losses on consoles sold and more features that come with the actual console (meaning consumers don't have to buy them).
There are, of course, a host of other reasons behind how the most recent batch of console wars have turned out, but that's pretty much the basics.
Based on what was successful this time around, what do you think the three big players will attempt for their next iteration of consoles?
Personally, I think that Sony will go big time on the motion controls, 3D technology and family games, but will still have the most expensive console around.
I think Xbox will pretty much forget about kinect technology and will make the beefiest console in terms of processing power (a title previously owned by the PS3) whilst keeping the cost about the same as it is now. It will also hae blu-ray. The next nintendo will be a lot more geared towards core gamers but they will keep stocking and developing casual games for the old wii. They will put a lot more emphasis on the DS.
