I honestly don't know; it has potential, but whether it'll be a WoW-killer or not is yet to be seen. I suspect it will make money, but the amount of money that has been invested in it means that they're going to need an awful lot of subscribers to make a profit.

"It'll be shit, but Bioware will be laughing all the way to the bank anyway"

*It'll be shit, but EA will be laughing all the way to the bank anyway*

fixed.

In all seriousness, I think it'll be pretty good. Although, isn't it gonna be like 50GB? I think that rules out all possibility of me even downloading it for a start...

I seriously doubt they'll make a profit any time soon is all I'm saying. Whether or not it'll be any good? All the innovations BioWare have made with the storyline will probably be great, but the gameplay just looks dull. I hope it does well though, but I'm not going to be an early adopter.

I think it will do decent bascially because it is a WoW clone. They didnt really take any chances, it is just WoW in the star wars universe. It just doesnt seem to fit the setting though that instead of having epic ACTIVE combat it is the same old press _ key for your guys to automatically do this skill. I mean in star wars universe does the holy trinity (tank, heal, dps) setting really fit?

I am thinking tera looks pretty badass so far

Like WoW attracted an army of Warcraft fans, this will attract an army of SW fans. And that's about all it's gonna attract.
Except for some possible good story it offers nothing more than being SW, which is nice if you wanna shoot lightning and yell "Unlimited Power!!!" but nothing more.

And while you're playing with a group I doubt they will wait for each player to listen to the entire life story an npc got to tell him.

I think at this point being developed by Bioware doesn't count as a selling point, not a good one at least.

At this point of MMOs, I just wonder how long will it take before it goes f2p :D

Its Bioware, one of the most popular game developers and Star wars, one of the most popular franchises. It also has KotOR backing it, which was a incredibly successful game.

I really don't see how it is going to fail.

If your group is talking to a quest NPC, everyone in it are likely going to have dialogue-controlled decisions to make together.

It's main selling point isn't voice acting, it's Bioware-style story...

What the fuck is with everyone that doesn't like this game ignoring that?

It's a Bioware game that happens to be an MMO. If you like Bioware and MMOs this game should be a blast for you.

P.S. No "Dragon Age 2 sucks" bullshit comments. It was a good game, just not as good as other games they've made.

Fir serously. Stop being so picky.

It won't fail. BioWare know how to handle SW RPG's (KOTOR was awesome) and even i who didn't watch all Star Wars movies until this year's June am excited about it.

i dont think it will fail, but it cant take over wow. WoW has 10 million people a single game cant over throw that, but TOR will have a lot of people just not on the same scale.

Depends what your expectation is. It may do well for awhile but by no means is it going to be a "WoW killer" as people tend to expect new mmos to be.

I can't see it doing horribly (mainly because Bioware seems to be on fire right now), but I highly doubt it (or indeed any upcoming MMO) will be dragging anyone away from WoW anytime soon.

Why does it seem like so many people want The Old Republic to fail? Also, calling it a WoW clone is ridiculous. They're both MMORPGs, but that's all they really have in common.
I don't think TOR will do as well as WoW. At least, not at first. TOR needs a more specialized fanbase, while WoW is appealing to anyone who has the slightest interest in fantasy.

Keeping in mind that Bioware is no longer the same Bioware after the sell-out and they didn't have a leash;EA.

I would be a great thing for Bioware and EA if it does fail, this will make them think twice if they ever bother to "MMO-ise" any other franchise anytime soon although it would leave a nasty hole in their pocket.

My general experience is that an MMO is doomed the moment it's fans declare it WoWs sucessor.

I'm not saying it won't be good, but if only Rift, Aion, Guild Wars, Tabula Rasa, and a bucket-full of other MMOs were the WoW-killers once made out to be (it was actually in Rifts adverts).

OT: I chose it would be an average game, with an average player base and make quite a bit of money. Star Wars fans will play it until servers shut down and Bioware fans will play it for a long while.
Meanwhile you have the bitter, angry ex-WoW players who will go for about two months then either crawl back to WoW and complain about it, or move on proclaiming Guild Wars 2 as the next greatest thing.

I think that it will ok. I'm personally never gonna get, because I feel they should have finished Knighs of Old Republic first, than some stupid MMORPG!!

To make a sort of related comment, WoW is going down. It might not ever die out completely, or even lose its spot as one of the biggest (if not the biggest) MMO, but it is still going down.
As a long-standing WoW player myself (i recently completely burnt out after my friends stopped playing) i will give a few reasons:
Older players are burning out
It costs what? £60 to get up to date with all the x-pacs and things? this is a serious barrier to entry, especcially on top of the ~£10 a month
Blizzard is not as good as it was; most people agree that it has been f***ed up since the activision merge, and even in the WoW team, a lot of the best devs are leaving for Titan and other companys
WoW is an old game, the graphics and gameplay are starting to look a bit dated already
New competitors: as has been shown, good new MMOs are coming out, such as guild wars 2 and others in the future

Haters are gonna hate, but if you disagree with this post please suggest reasonable arguments against the points made and feel free to add any points you think i may have missed :)

About SWOTOR: I think that it will be popular to start with but eventually die down to die hard star wars fans, as has been already mentioned

Also, swedish people are cool :) some of my best friends are swedish ;)
