Now I wasn't sure or not if a similar thread about this has been done already but I didn't find one so....but anyways...
Now I know what you're thinking. "The game isn't even out yet". True, it isn't but you know how rumors spread and trailers and teasers raise spirit so I wanted to know everyone's opinion. We all know over the years there's been supposed "WoW-killers" but we also know how those all turned out...So, your take on this.

To the death!

I just thought about that. I agree with Yahtzee's comment in one of his videos about WoW being as good as MMOs get atm. That doesn't mean that somewhere along the line it'll get upstaged but I know how fan boys can be. :p

Champions Online and Aion are also supposedly WoW killers. There is no way of knowing.

Well it's not like the mass majority of players are going to stop playing World of Warcraft. Star Wars: The Old Republic is just going to bring players that are new to the MMO genre and take a few players from other MMOs. It won't "kill" World of Warcraft.

uh no they weren't. nobody even suggest that.

TOR on the other hand has the BIGGEST development budget of any game EVER. almost $800 million.

It's being made by a company that has some of the most award winning RPGs in history & funded by the largest video game publisher in the world.

Oh, and it also happens to have one of the most recognizable & deepest universes there is, Star Wars.

Do the math.

I'm sure a lot of WoW fans are also star wars fans, but it would have to meet expectations and meet them right out of the gate, not with patches and updates. Nothing will completely kill WoW, but you can chip away at it's user base by providing a solid alternative.

I don't understand why everyone wants a new MMO to be a "WoW Killer". You can have a player base without trying to unseat the most popular MMO in the market. Hell, the original Everquest still has a player base, small it might be, but someone's buying those games that SOE keeps cranking out.

Why can't a new MMO just be a fun new MMO and not the newest multi-billion dollar enterprise?

I haven't even played it and I can tell you it will not be a WoW killer. Nothing will kill WoW.

Unplug China, and the title of WoW-killer is yours. Good luck with that.

Also an interesting point - you'll never be able to silence the WoW fans :p

Sorry.

Not another bloody WoW killer!!

When will people get it through their thick craniums that toppling WoW is not the be all and end all of MMO gaming?. The sooner designers stop chasing after lofty goals and stay grounded and work with what they have, the better their products will end up becoming for the consumers.

If you aim high, you will fall harder.
