I'd really like if people stopped calling MMOs WoW-Killers. Realize that many people will be playing TOR and WoW at the same time. And TOR will find its own audience and do just fine, just like EVE did, except probably with more players.

I hope it does well, but I will most likely not play it. And I will most likely still have my WoW subscription going when it comes out, regardless of how little I enjoy WoW and how little time I would have to play any MMO.

The Old Republic looks just as as "good" as WoW, that is say it looks horrible.

OT: I do not like MMOs. Strongly. So when I say that this game piqued my interest, it's saying something.
It's the exact same with me. I was very disappointed when I first heard it was going to become an MMO. When I heard more I actually was surprised and even look forward to it.

ok just go to my AION post, then replace the word AION with The old republic and you'll have the same results.

I. Would. Love. For. Something. To. Kill. Wow.
It would, however, be less than helpfull if our divine saviour was yet another mmorpg -.-'
But, no. Wow will not die. Why? Because it is undeniably and completly devoid of life.

As happy as I would be to see WoW get knocked down a few pegs, I can no longer keep track of all the games billed as "WoW-killers." I am going to have to say that TOR will almost assuredly follow in the footsteps of those countless games that came before it.

Big ol hyped teaser vid we saw..beta went up and crashed hard..i'm no starwars fanboy or a hater. I actually loved the KotoR series. But i have zero faith in this MMO until i get my hands on it personally. For i have played galaxies. ::shudders:: Star wars is a tricky universe to attempt to capture within an MMO setting. More so then any other genre, or fantasy world attempted so far. Player power balance will be key. And i think it will be near impossible to pull off in an mmo build. And if it is somehow, dumbed down jedi and uber scoundrels may be very unsatisfying to some fans.

OT though: Seriously, there's no need for WoW to "die" for another game to be successful. Games can survive independently or some people (OMG dare i say it!!) may even play both. I don't care if WoW lives or dies by Old republic, or aion, or farmville, whatever...
Indeed, solid competition in any capitalist venture is always a good thing so long as neither one completely colapses.

Case in point: Rock Band and Guitar Hero. While Rock Band has clearly eclipsed Guitar Hero as the top music game, that has not stopped Activision from pushing for innovation in the genre. Guitar Hero 4 was the first to offer a music creation feature and is currently the only one that has a drop-in option. Rock Band brought no-fail mode and the four-person band experience. Their competition has worked well for the both of them. I envision that, should TOR get to a healthy, sustainible gamer population, that the competition will be for the better of the two games.

But, as Galaxies taught us, any MMORPG can get killed by poor administration.

make love, not warcraft!
agree with almost everyone above me (and that don't happen often)
WoWKiller is a stupid term for a stupid idea.
i understand that any coumpany would want the userbase that WoW has but if they are making a game and comparing it to WoW all throughout the process, it will fail hard.

make something original that people will want to play and people will play it.

It won't kill wow.

No MMO has ever killed wow

No new MMO will kill wow.

Free private servers can't even kill wow.

It doesn't have to kill wow though. It can be a good game all by itself.

Will I leave WoW for this game? Does this game give me a warlock class capable of summoning demons and magic from the deepest and darkest reaches of hell? I've got a giant axe wielding kill monster, the power to weild hellfire, dark corruption, the ability to strike fear into anything and the awesome power to morph into an unstoppable super demon that kills anything with an aura of death.

This game will have what? Sith lords? PFFFFFFFTT

Starwars sucks anyway. Now, a Star Trek MMO would be another story.

As far as I'm concerned, you can't kill what is already dead.

In other words: I have no interest in World of Warcraft anymore.

I have, however, become quite fascinated by The Old Republic, and I'm looking forward to the game a great deal. What with the class-specific stories being told, and your characters being actual characters, and a good-looking battle system, I'm looking forward to trying out every class in the game... starting with the Bounty Hunter.

(Hah, the guy with "Jedi" in his name is going to play for the Sith Empire, and he won't even play as a Force Sensitive!)

No.

Too many fantasy fans for anything non-fantasy to kill WoW.

Just like a Fantasy game wouldn't kill off a Sci-fi game

The only thing that will kill WoW is The World of Starcraft.

I'm still on the fence whether i'll give ToR a chance. I am a Star Wars fan, but i never did give "Galaxies" a chance...I know Bioware is involved, and they are probably the last company to actually produce a quality Star Wars title, but let's be honest.. The Star Wars franchise is entrenched in a rut of mediocrity.

I don't see this one coming close to toppling WoW...

I don't think so. WoW appeals to many people that may like fantasy, but aren't necassarily attracted to the sci fi world.
