As the Escapist article on it [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/the-needles/7388-Lets-Not-Ban-RapeLay] said; no.

When it comes to fiction, absolutely anything goes. If it doesn't hurt any real persons, then it doesn't need to be banned (although due marketing restrictions on it only being sold to adults are in order, assuming it had ever been sold here).

The whole discussion is essentially irrelevant though; As Rapelay isn't sold anywhere in the Western world, the only feasible way anyone would get of hold of it here would be downloading a copy of it off the internet, which is already illegal as a breach of copyright law. So it's de facto illegal to obtain it anyway.

Logically? No, I know it shouldnt be.

But whenver I see the game mentioned I feel such rage.. So, yes, I think it should be.

I'm afraid I know EXACTLY who would want to play a game where you rape people ><.

They are aiming the game at a group of people that are shunned by the entire world, and above all it seems in Japan. Why this game is legal even there is beyond me. I haven't any idea if Fox News' greasy fingers has been over this game, but if they have/will it can't have been pretty on gamer-culture...
You do know the game has been out for 5 years right? Everything that can be said about the game has already been said.
If I in any part of my comment seemed like I thought the game had just turned up, I apologize. I am and was fully aware that it's been out for quite a while, and I'm sorry for giving the impression I was not...

Indeed, six years too late to the discussion.

A very vocal group complained about it and it got media attention, then it got dissmissed as the BS that is was.

Really? Canada? Huh, I suppose its always the last one you expect :p

I agree, the thought to ban a game for such a stupid reason is ridiculous.

I think we already had this topic discussed about before and I don't think it needs anything extra being said. So can't we just forget about this and move on?

I'm not usually in favor of banning anything, but this is an exception. Why? Because this garbage has absolutely no merit or benefit, and quite a lot of potential harm. It was a close decision for me, though. My utter revulsion for that game only barely outweighed my aversion to censorship.
If you buy into the bullshit that says that people will play this game and then rape people, you might as well buy the bullshit that says people will play doom and go on shooting rampages. and while you are at it, drink the fucking koolaid and enjoy your society of fear.
Where the hell did i say any of that? "Potential harm" doesn't mean i think it's going to turn non-rapists into rapists. But, for people who have inclinations toward rape, this is throwing fuel on their fire, or at least providing entertainment to a group of people who don't deserve to be entertained. Beyond that, i really don't feel the need to justify my opinion to you. It's my opinion; you are entitled to your own, but i'd appreciate it if you didn't skew my words.

Well a bit surprised that you didn't know the game hadn't already been pasted all over the media ages ago. No harm done but it was fairly everywhere.

The statistic is based on the number of rapes recorded by the police. That's not quite the same as the number of rapes.

I've played it, finished it and done some dirty deeds to it a few times. It's quite the silly game and nothing like the rape simulator that people make it seem to be. Yes, you rape women, but at least you don't kick their ass and then rape them[footnote]Ahemm BattleRaper 2.[/footnote].
I say we let it be just to piss the people that are enraged by it.

Ever feel like you arrived half an hour late to the party and when you ask for a song they say, 'We already listened to that one, dumbass' and you just stand there dumbfounded. People, I don't check nooks and crannies for gaming topics, I didn't know there were other topics of this one. But even if I did, I still would've done it. Cos now at least one person is more sure of themselves on where they stand on game legality.
P.S, again, getting the impression people think I support this games ban. FYI....I don't

gah, its just like the rest of hentai games. its just that this one got a lot of free marketing.

saying that rape games appeal only to "wannabe rapists" is like saying that all ppl who play fps are mass murderers.

and no, i did not liked that game, im more of an ecchi person (im pretty sure you wanted to know that, so.... yeah)

I will never play it, and I find it's very concept disturbing and disgusting--but free speech is far more important than knee-jerk reactions to something unsavory. Banning ANYTHING based on its content is ALWAYS bad; it's a slippery slope to censorship (after all, if RapeLay is bad enough to warrant being illegal to make, what about Manhunt, or GTA, or Gears of War, or... well, just about any violent/sexual/profane game?).

This seems to be the perfect time to bust out the old "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Rapelay is a porn game so it will be treated like porn. You're acting like normal retailers would stock their shelves with it. Besides, you can only get it from Japan so the people to do acquire it really want it.

To me, porn games in general seem pretty stupid. I mean, you have to use both hands to hold the controller :D

Children do not smoke because a camel in sunglasses tells them too. similarly, people are not going to rape because its part of a game. I do not care about hentai games in the slightest, but censorship is the slow decline for a country that has already lost most of its freedom.
