In the two best Batman movies (IMO) the dark night and batman begins, Bale have played Batman with a dark voice that most find just comicly cheezy.
And it seems like im the only one who think this shouldn't be a strike against either Nolan or Bale.
the reason for this is that in the comics and animated series, the writers have clearly depicted that Bruce Wayne tries to alter his voice as batman, or in some cases automaticly speaks in a lower, darker register when he dones the cowel (seeing as he becomes another person in a way). And some also hint or show that its a clear difference bethween how he sounds as a rookie batman (i.e Batman Begins) and in his more experienced days (i.e batman [1989]).

One of the best actors to depict Bruce Wayne's voice changes is voice actor Kevin Conroy who shows that Batman alters his voice booth as Bruce Wayne and Batman, while he sounds really more like his batman voice.

So IMO the way Bale dipicts Batman is really more true to the character than Adam West or Michael Keaton.

I just wnted to see if any other have some thoughts on the subject, and to see if its just me who is delutional because of my love of the Nolan movies or that i may really have a point ?

I agree that it makes sense that Batman changes his voice when in costume. It only makes sense because Bruce Wayne is such a well known personality in that world that if he didn't disguise his voice he'd be too easily recognizable. That said, I do understand why people think Bale went too far. The voice he uses is so deep and gruff that it just sounds like he's trying too hard. I remember in Batman the Animated Series Batman also changed his voice there, but the change wasn't as extreme, so it didn't ever come off kind of silly. Ideally, Batman would change his voice, but not in such a was as to make it too obvious that he was changing his voice. When Bale does the voice, it's so extremely changed, that even if we were one of the people who didn't know his other voice, we would still be able to tell that the voice he was using wasn't his real voice. Both of Batman's voices need to sound like a voice you might hear someone actually use.

Conroy. All the way. Lent his Batman so much emotion and was likable and intimidating at the same time, whereas Bale was just intimidating.

I think Bale and his darker voice add a bit of realism (as opposed to... *facepalm* Clooney, who obviously just went in and did his usual thing). I think this is what I like about the Nolan/Bale Batman, it all borders on the edge of the possible.

I like Bale's "I'm Batman, where's the Joker?" voice, it suited Batman well when he was angry and helped with the disguise.

What I didn't like was Watchmen giving Rorschach that voice too, especially when the graphic novel actually described his manner of speech.
the watchmen graphic novel describes his voice to be pretty much like that tho doesnt it?

I completely hate both of Nolan's Batman movies and I wish he would not make anymore. I would gladly sacrifice the medium of motion pictures itself if it meant those tweo movies would never be made. I hate them that much.

Bale's Batman voice is kind of a central example to what is wrong with these movies. The problem is not that he changed his voice. It's that his voice sounds fake. Like he's trying too hard to sound different.

This could be Bale's fault as the actor may simply not be able to change his voice like that. But that isn't the case as in the Terminator: Who Cares? trailer, Bale does a much better Batman voice than he did in either Batman movie. Not perfect, but much better. This means he did such a terrible job because he was told to.

Why was he told to? It's pretty obvious from watching the movies. Christopher Nolan doesn't like super heroes very much.

The 1990 Captain America movie gets a lot of flack for being terrible because it is. One of the things that dragged it down is the scriptwriter, Stephen Tolkin did not like super heroes and this showed in the final product. This is why Salinger spends as little time in his super suit being a super hero in a super hero movie, and ofter he's wearing something over the suit to hide it. You get the feeling Tolkin was embarrassed to be writing a super hero movie.

I get the same feel from a lot of the super hero movies today, especially the two Nolan Batman movies. They are embarrassed they are making super hero movies. The plot of the Batman movies emphasizes Bruce Wayne, not Batman. The first movie should have been called Bruce Wayne Begins. Batman is nothing more than a sham, a character Bruce Wayne affects. This is why the voice is so fake. Because it is fake. Batman isn't real, kids.

This is why I would rather Nolan not make another super hero movie again as long as he lives and get someone in there not embarrassed by the material to make an actual Batman movie. Six films and we still don't have a real Batman movie. Just four turds and two Bruce Wayne movies.

They are the best movies so far, but I think Christian Bale is a fantastic Bruce Wayne, but a decent Batman. It really does come down to the Batman Voice, and Kevin Conroy hit it out of the park almost too well. So well that we who watched the animated series are spoiled by it.

A little too hard to please? If you wanted to make a Batman rant you could have just made your own thread. Here all we're talking about is who we think is the best at Batman.
