I know, it's obvious Sonic Team are a bunch of idiots masquerading as game designers, but for god's sake, at least make the new games at least a little bit bearable.

For all extensive purposes, I am seriously pondering suing them for trauma.
I played Sonic the Hedgehog, didn't buy it, GOD no, but played it.

For the brief ninety second demo it became apparent that the story was and indeed my deductions were correct upon wikipedia, a furry fanfic.

let me tell you how. Sonic the Hedgehog is in love with a human girl (which wikipedia is quick to hide) her name is Princess Pea- I mean Elise. She gets captured by eggman and the whole thing gets messed up as hell when a new woodland creature, just in case you weren't sick of the sheer NUMBER of them, shows up, his name is Silver and calls Sonic the Iblis Trigger. That's when I dropped the controller and backed slowly away from the videogame aisle.

It may not be what most people call "fair" to judge a game just by the few minutes you were playing it, but I was foolish enough to have gotten Sonic: Unleashed for Christmas.

Anyway, this has all drawn me to the firm conclusion that it is not fun, will never be and I really should find a certain friend who suggests Sonic games as frequently as he breathes and shove a baseball bat down his throat.

This being said, I'm interested to hear what you people think of the Sonic Games that fueled this rant. Like him? Hate him? Smart and never cared? Post here.

Yeah, the 2D ones are the only good ones, and with that sega genisis classics release a little while back, the GOOD sonic games can now be played again

I haven't played any of the old games or really new ones, only Sonic Advanced and its counter part, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. I remember liking them but it was a while ago, and I was a lot younger. Looking at metacritic though, they both got relatively good scores (87 and 73 respectively).

For me it started as a love relationship with the series, eventually boiling down to tolerating it up untill the release of Shadow the Hedgehog at which point I got sick of tolerance and just started outright hating the series.

I loved him in his 2D youth, but as he has grown, he has become the laughing stock of the gaming world. I'd love to still be able to hold Sonic games up as what a fun game should look like, as I did when I was in the second grade, but he has become worthless, and un-saveable. We need to all make an oath never to buy, rent, or even acknowledge the existence of any of his new games. Maybe then Sonic Team will lay the poor little bugger to rest...

I actually have a soft spot for the little blue hedgehog, i'm willing to give him a chance at another game so long as its 2D, unlike everybody else who wants to burn him in the most inhumane manner possible.

All the 2d games are freaking awesome. All of the 3d ones suck except for that one on the dream-cast. That one was awesome.

Your poll and topic completely fail to acknowledge the existence of the old Sonic games.

The most recent one was HALF a good game, which to be fair is a massive improvement for the series. I like to pretend in my naivety that there is hope for Sonic.

Most of the 2D Sonic games were great, even the 8 bit games were fun (apart from chaos, i hated that one). 1993 was the year for Sonic, at that time Sonic 2 was riding high and Sonic CD was released as well as a few other litle games but, we can't pretend that the old Sonic was so full of innocence, anyone remember stuff like labyrinth and Tails sky patrol? Probably not because these games were terrible.

If only Sonic Xtreme had been made.

I may have the most Sonic experience than anyone on this site, I own and beat most of the sonic games, including Sonic 2006 and Shadow the Hedgehog. I own all the Sonic archive comics, and I have every last tv show they ever made of him on dvd, including Sonic Underground and Sonic X. Do I like it all? No! But my understanding of the Sonic universe is vast, and that's why I know that Sonic does have the potential to make a good 3d game. The only question that remains is; Will Sonic Team stop taking advantage of the Sonic name that sells, and actually try to please the people who want to see him succeed? Sonic has beaten Mario in sales before, but I doubt I will ever see that again.

i am a sonic fanboy only because of adventure and adventure 2, plus unleashed (on wii at least) was awesome
to me and other fanboys, 06 was like our holocaust if we were the germans (not to offend any jews, i just mean it was a bit of our history that we'd rather forget)
and black knight was like our tony blair - it promised good things, looked great but turned out to be a pile of shite

but i remain percervering (?) because adventure 2 was quite possibly my favourite game of all time and sonic 3 was pretty damn good as well
i suppose as a fanboy, you've got to accept the bad along with the good

I said "YES", but not overly a fan of the latest games.
I chose "YES" because I loved (and still like) the "early" Sonic games :) ...

Sounds like that last thing would be a fun game.
I used to like Sonic games a lot, but then he went 3D and it just wasn't my thing. I think they should just put the games in cereal boxes, but that would have to be some really good cereal...

I admit I clicked that I love him. As Sonic, not as the recent games... They make me sad, just like Phantasy Star Universe made me sad. I have and periodically still play Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, but nothing past those two games. I also picked up the recent Genesis gamiong collection and remembered how much Spinball kicked my ass. So I'd like to think I'm not a fanboy, just really like Sonic, and Tails, and Knuckles...

And WTF?! When did it become Eggman instead of Robotnik?

The 2d games were/are (the Sonic Advance series) amazing. Adventure and Adventure 2 were decent. Nothing else deserves to be mentioned.

Sonic is one of those characters I grew up with so I'll always have a soft spot him. But I've long given up hope of a good game. All I can do is shake my head in dispair.
