Aside from my glasses, neither does mine. People often just think that being a gamer means that, despite evidence to the contrary, I must look and act like the stereotype, a problem I think a lot of people have.Shock and Awe said:

To be honest, I think the negative reactions people apparently give towards gamers has more to do with the person in question than the kinds of games they play.AwesomeFerret said:

Seriously try talk about Beyond Good and Evil or Team Fortress2 and unfortunately most people won't know what t he fuck your on about. No one in my school had even heard of any controversy around MW2 and most bought it because it was hyped. So the moral is if you want your game to sell on consoles screw the informed community just stick a label on it and just hype it up up and away.

Exactly. People seem to think pretending that everybody accepts games now, the problem will go away. If a game isn't mainstream and "cool" then people think it must suck, and as such think the person in question is weird. Teams Fortress 2 is, in my opinion, far better then CoD or Halo. But no one would believe that, because its not on Xbox 360 and you don't have real guns in it.Glademaster said:

every "gamer" i knew grewing up we all did everything. we were the kids who were the athletes/straight A students and gamed a shit ton. i hardly had time for anything else
so now a days, mostly everyone i know who games, does game alot, but also isn't a fucking pile so we get out and play sports together usually 2-3 times a week, and if not im at the gym in my spare time outside of work and gaming.
hell most the people i know are jealous they can't do what i can do (they might be able to, but they are jealous nonetheless) , my football player roommate is asking me to build him a computer soon and im gonna teach him a thing or two in the process, and he is truly a huge meathead and he has not once called me a douchebag or said anything bad in the process, so really this stigma..

No, because nowadays everybody plays video games. I guess plenty of girls (not being sexist or anything) think they're silly or immature. I like to point out to them that thinking worse of somebody in order to bolster your own ego is pretty much the most immature thing ever.

My mum will occasionally casually mention how if such and such an activity where rendered in pixels id have no difficulty completing it without embarrassing myself, however thats more often because I'm clumsy. She's not unjustified, i once destroyed her bathroom by tripping backwards into the thin side of a door, and tearing the shelves and cabinets out of the wall in attempt to catch myself.
when i was in high school a football player commented negativity on my D&D habit, he stopped when i commented on the fantasy football league i saw he and his father leaving one night.
more often insults come from lack of gaming skill, at least in my circle of acquaintance. for example i give my brother shit for not being able to beat the tutorial level on metroid prime for the wii.
