dude, calm down. They're only games and you can always just return them.
Yeah, I only rented it and it was no real loss for me, and frankly, it's futile of me to complain about Infamous alone. Designers are going to make the games they want to make one way or another and it stands to reason that if they weren't making Infamous that it wouldn't have meant the'd have made something that appeals to me more. But I can't stop other people from making similar games based on its success and (to me) inexplicable popularity, and it represents a lot of trends in the industry that I just despise. Because of Infamous and games like it, there will be, in general, fewer games that I enjoy being produced in the future, and I'm already looking at a really short list as of this console generation.
Aw, poor you. Only having a few games you like sucks, doesn't it?

Half life two and all of its identical chapters.

I can not for the life of me figure out why people like it. I wouldn't even go far down enough to call it "generic" because a generic game will usually have some sort of bosses or climax, it's just.... boring. You get your most standard weapons known to man, "generic pistol, generic SMG, generic semi useless melee weapon, generic rifle, generic rocket launcher" Really the only two non generic weapons are the crossbow, which just barely replaces generic sniper, and that almost useless bug scrotum thing. Then there's the gravity gun, which is a gimmicky piece of crap that you'll never use outside of the shoveled in puzzles and the few occasions that the game decides to plop down sawblades.

The enemies come in three flavors. First, there's the generic faceless naziesque police officer which could be replaced by any generic enemy marine ever. Second, there's the too-small-to-be-threatening headcrabs, and third, there's zombies. Because everyone knows when you want originality, go for zombies. Because zombies have never been done before. There's those big awkward looking walker thingies with the pencil thin legs near the end too, but those are so few and far between that you'll almost never see them. Same goes for the turret things.

The biggest irk I have with this game is that people will often say "Halo sucks, it's the most generic game ever" and then strait facedly point to halflife as a counterpoint. Really the only original story element half life 2 has is the whole thing with the Gman, and that rarely comes into play. Ok, stop me if you've seen this in any movie, tv show, or videogame. Some evil syndicate has taken over the world and now rules with an iron fist, limiting the freedoms of the people and reducing it's citizens to poverty. The protagonist joins/leads a resistance to fight the evil government syndicate, which consists of very few brave individuals including an inventor and a tomboyish love interest who's tough, but not enough so to the point where they don't show girlish emotion or helplessness. Now compare that to, a genetically enhanced super soldier raised to fight from the time he was a child kills aliens with big guns while wearing a cool set of cybernetic armor. Now add zombies, a silent cardboard cutout protagonist, and one original story element (Gman for the first, the alien covenant/halo ring thing for the second) to both stories and there you go, you've got half life and halo, but what half life DOESN'T have is a kickass multiplayer which is really the prime feature of the game.

I played through half-life 2 (and its episodes) just to see what the hype was all about. While the game wasn't horrible, it was incredibly bland. There was one bit in episode 1 near the beginning when you where in that big steel death asylum with all those skinless inside out people which I'll admit was kind of cool, but then I played episode 2 and it was back to lame. I never felt threatened by the enemies, despite them killing me over and over because I suck with pc controls, and really it didn't have any big climactic battles or moments that left any sort of impression on me. It was just a bland generic FPS with a cool physics engine which is awesome for Gmod, but my opinion on Gmod is entirely different.

Modern Warfare 2. It's pretty cool, but it's far from the greatest thing ever.

I'd say Fable II was a decent game, but not as good as it was made out to be.
Enjoyable, just not world beating as many mags made it out to be.
