Got one, am a 'hardcore gamer' and play it almost every day. And, after having friends over to play it, they're all leaning heavily towards getting one.

This guy right here wins the internet for having the right answer. See, it didn't take that long.

I just wanna sit back, relax and play a game, not shame my hands and body all around in an attempt to pretend I'm part of the game
Thank you for the internet :)
My first one on the site actually, just took me 3 years to get it :D

As for the sitting back and relaxing...
I don't know if you've played the WiiU but of all the games I've played the most moving I've had to do so far is use the mote as a steeringwheel controller while driving a FZero minigame in NintendoLand.
Most motion stuff is gone, at least in the games I've played.
Sure there's some sniper aiming but no major movements so far
I say give it a shot if you have the chance to try it out, very good console, for me at least : )

I hate the term 'hardcore' and 'casual'.
What are we, making a porno?

But, OT-ish?
I'm a gamer, it's one of my MAIN hobbies, and I want a WiiU.

At least once Rayman Legends comes out.

The terms used in your poll are elitist and silly.

That said, I'd love a Wii U, but I can't afford one.

The frak kind of limited poll is that?! xD
I'm not willing to put myself into either of those categories for various reasons. I see myself as a recreational gamer. (In an ideal world this term would be redundant as all hell, but that's modern times for you.)

I can't say I've been exposed to a lot of local buzz about the WiiU, but I have done some cursory research on what it offers, and based on that I know for sure I won't buy one. This has nothing to do with the console's tech specs, game lineup or newfangled controls, but more with Nintendo's ongoing design philosophy of recent years that caters to 'gaming with friends', which is just not what I'm looking for; back when I had a Wii I realized that the console's main potential was in enjoying games with one or more friends in the room - absolutely marvellous entertainment at parties, but not much use outside that particular scenario. Usually when I play games I want to recharge my batteries and take a timeout from the hectic pace and arduous bullshit of real life, which works best for me when I'm by myself, and even though my X360 and PS3 offer a broad range of online features to mingle with the community, I never use them; I just want some quiet time to relax.
In short, the WiiU just doesn't fit the bill for what I want from my gaming system; if, on the other hand, you're the kind of gamer who likes having friends around most of the time I'm pretty sure it'll offer lots of great entertainment. :)

So you predicted the Wii was going to have that motion plus shit before it was released?
No, but addons are superfluous to what consoles offer. The motion plus came out pretty far from initial release, and I got mine for free with a game, so I can't complain.

By the way the motion thing is a real CON in my eyes, but thats another theme for another thread.
I agree with that part. It's garbage and the most fun I had with the wii were games that weren't using it. I played Mario kart, Smash bros, etc. just like I played them on the Game Cube and I couldn't be happier. But tolerating the existance of motion controls is something everyone is going to have to do from now on, now that the Kinect is shipping with the next Xbox and Sony (being Sony) won't acknowledge their failure with the Move and likely combine that with the PS4 as well.

Yeah, I'll admit I was thinking more about the Wii on that one. I'm literally tired from work so I sit on the couch to play Skyward Sword and OMG SHAKE THE ENEMY OFF NOW SKYWARD STRIKE NOW SLASH A LOT OF TIMES! FFUUUUUU!
That's my only complain. Love the game. Hate having to do all that.

And I've played the WiiU demo at work but that's about it. I admit Rayman Legends was badass and didn't require me to do all sorts of movements to play it. But that's just one game. I don't see Nintendo abandoning the feature that everyone copied from them. They'll have to add the motion thing to most games.
I dunno, I guess it's more of a personal issue. I wanna like the WiiU but I don't wanna go through the same thing as what I went through with the Wii. I'll probably wait a couple of years before I consider getting one. :l

I want one, but not right now. I will wait for it to come down in price and get some more games out. I figure maybe next year. I am more interested in PC gaming, but I still would like one.

That game is fucking awesome, may I just say, I reviewed it recently and it's incredibly fun even on your own, with a few friends it's just outstanding! :D Know ye the horrors of the well timed triple blowfish drop! EDIT: I didn't put it in my review I don't think but yeah, better than Mario Kart, nowhere near as much cheap bullshit and far better driving.

OT: refuse to vote because I hate those terms. I'd say I'm an enthusiastic gamer, I have around 20 systems and I have 6 hooked up to my TV and my PC all currently in use, as well as shelves full of games > > and boxes full.

And a few classic 8 and 16 bit systems hooked up to an old CRT in the attic.

I do want a Wii U, I'm waiting for the library to flesh out a little first, and for maybe a price drop or less shitty bundles from retailers here in the UK. But my interest is there, I love Nintendo's IP's and they usually get some great exclusives from third parties like Sega or Capcom.

People are actually waiting to "see how things turn out"...? Apparently someone is living on mars, with their fingers in their ears and their heads in a hole. It's a Nintendo console, you know EXACTLY how it's going to turn out. It will get Nintendo's big hitters: Mario, Zelda, Mario kart etc. Either you love this stuff or hate it, the point is you are waiting to see what you already know. It's not like Nintendo just popped up overnight, what they do isn't a mystery. No true surprises are coming, so take it or leave it.
I got one the moment it was released; I do that for almost every console because I like video games. Also, for the record, I think Nintendo making games that are still just trying to be nothing more then video games (and not interactive movies) is as hard core as gaming can possibly get.
Totally off topic but is your avatar from Monster Rancher by any chance? I haven't seen that anime in like 10 friggin years > >

I don't really know what kind of gamer I am.. 'hardcore' I guess but I prefer 'enthusiast' haha.
Yeah, people should use that term now. Hardcore gives the wrong impression.

OT: Not interested. Not as much of a gamer anymore, didn't use my wii at ton. Love ninty's portable systems, but just not interested.

It still doesn't have any games on it that I want to play and can't just get for my PC or PS3.

So yeah, still not interested.

I want to get it eventually but I'm not exactly in a rush. I'll wait till it get's more good games and hopefully comes down in price. I have a good PC to keep me occupied until then.

I've had multiple lengthy arguments with my friends about the Wii U. Suffice it to say, I can see potential in it, but from what I've seen no developer has even started making interesting titles for it. They're going to have to do something really incredible for me to even consider buying one.

That or release Eternal Darkness 2. I'm not sure which is more unlikely.

Im not interested in the Wii U at all.

The way I see it, it came out way too late, with the next gen Xbox and PlayStation (hopefully) around the corner, I cant help but feel that the Wii U with equal if not SLIGHTLY better hardware than the current-gen consoles is going to get left in the dirt when the next gen console come out; a touch screen isn't going to make it sell. That and Nintendos focus is on "Hardcore" gamers, and most of the "hardcore" games are 3rd party ports like Mass Effect 3 or Batman: Arkham City; games which most people already own on another platform, because most devs are reluctant to make games for the system (as recently shown by EA/Crytek)

Real gangsters don't go shouting around that they're gangsters. Just like real hardcore gamers don't go shouting around they're hardcore gamers.

I rather enjoy my Wii U and don't at all regret my purchase(except for maybe the Pro Controller because I only have one compatible game so far).

I'd played Nintendo Land at my friend's apartment, and it was without a doubt one of the most fun multiplayer experiences I've ever had.

I'm definitely getting one, hopefully the other people who aren't interested will be soon, because they are missing out big time.
This is something I agree with, except the part about playing it at a friend's apartment... I was the one who had Nintendo Land.

OT: I consider myself a casual gamer and I like it.
