Yes, it is a great game. For 5$. I just bought it. My physical copy doesn't like me. Thanks for bringing my attention to it!

Second, it's aggressively juvenile. It's clear that the developers were trying to make it grimdark and all that, but failed. My biggest problem in that regard (and the reason I couldn't get more than 20 hours into it) is that it takes a completely ridiculous and juvenile approach to sex. Basically, a rule of thumb in the game is if it has tits, it will try to fuck you. For no reason whatsoever. Then you get a little card memorializing the deed.

If you like that way of doing things, all the more power to you, but I got sick of the juvenile power fantasy relatively quickly.
It's not developers... It's how the books were, it's how the author tends to write his settings, he did it with Witcher and plenty of other stories he wrote.
The world sure seems to be prude these days in the west, in Poland no one was offended by it, and frankly, medieval settings are supposed to be like that... Seriously sexuality in middle ages was not exactly all about sir Knight kneeling before fair Lady, especially when it comes to smaller villages and simple thugs.
If you think Witcher was 'immature' be happy you haven't read Sapkowski's other series about Hussite wars...

hours of gameplay and entertainment or a burger.....hmm...unless I am starving, I go with the Witcher. It is a good game. Lots of depth, really interesting alchemy system (if you are in to that sort of thing), looks decent on a decent comp, all in all, definitely worth 5 USD. Go for it.

I'm not offended by it at all. I just got tired of the juvenile power fantasy inherent in the thing. Literally every single woman in the game wants to, and usually does, have sex with Geralt. It's a perfect example of wish-fulfillment for 13 year old boys.

I wasn't offended in the slightest, it's just ridiculous from a realism/practicality standpoint and I got bored of it.

For $5 bucks why not?

I thought it sucked, but where I live most rentals cost at least $5.

I have a small gripe with the fact that the game didn't quite stay true to the original books (which are awesome, btw; one of my favourite fantasy series), but that's always to be expected with adaptations.
I quite liked the gameplay, especially the whole changing of the fighting style. Alchemy is actually useful.
The story is alright but I didn't like the turn in the end which I found a little bit cliche. And yeah, the sex cards are quite silly.

Overall The Witcher is a very solid game, tt does quite a few things different, some for the worse, some for the better. I'd say it's absolutely worth the $5.

Even if you're horrified at the mention of sucking dwarf cocks, you should get it anyway.
Awesome game with some flaws, but well worth $5.

Fantastic game.

I bought it for my second time on GoG. Worth WAY more than 5$. I ended up spending around 50 hours on the game. Simply fantastic. And only 3 days to W2!!!!

Yes absolutely. It's probably my favourite RPG of all time, and loved the all characters, dialogue and atmosphere. The choices are actually morally difficult sometimes, and have a direct effect on the story over all. There's even an epic twist at the end that made me go "O_O wtf no way, that's awesome!" Not many games have managed that.

Actually the developers were trying to keep to the source material as closely as possible, and in that regards they did a pretty good job (even if the end result is somewhat comical by our standards). It's european origins do make it quite distinct, and I get the feeling not everything translated over perfectly. I'm assuming the language barrier, with the English language's limited ways of expressing motion, may have meddled with some of the more intimate dialogue.

I've only read the two translated novels, but I can already see how similiar it is. The side quests match it closest, since The Witcher novels are largely made up of "short stories" with an over arching plot. And yes, Geralt does end up doing everything that moves. People in his world seem very attracted to him for being such an unsual and exotic creature... something the game didn't quite get across any better then "Oh, you're a Witcher? LET'S F***!" :/

To be honest, there aren't a lot of $60 games out there I wouldn't buy when discounted to $5.

And if you don't like all the sex stuff int he game just skip those bits.

I once picked up mirror's edge for $4, but at least that game was much more concentrated than the witcher, so probably more enjoyable as a cheap one off. But i suppose if you don't like it you could probably resell it on ebay for a profit.

this question for real? get it! you only regret the things you don't do, and this is only $5. go for it, i mean, even if it sucks you will at least have the experience of playing it. and we never see the quality of a good game, fully, until we've seen a bad one to compare it to.

And the best news is that, once the promotion is over, it goes up to only ten dollars. Which is still quite the bargain.
