I'll use "chicky" to when I'm talking to another girl sometimes, but it's because it's a pet name my grandmother used to call me. Generally, i don't find it offensive. The way people say something is often more important than the word the use.

I tend not to use the word, except in an ironic application:
look at the filename... it's not what you'd think from that [http://www.uq.edu.au/~suter/test/blonde-chick-with-cute-pussy.jpg].

But it generally doesn't bother me, unless someone's using it to make a generalization about "chicks".

I use it all the time. If someone tells me it offends them, I stop referring to them as a chick. That simple.

I only ever use it when I'm talking about baby birds. Whenever I have tried to use it when talking about girls I've sounded like a dumbass.

If it helps 'chicks' is a Shakespearian word, first introduced in some play or another. I was busy trying to kill a tank with a chainsaw in L4D2 when they were talking about it in QI.

Depends on the situation. Lets say I'm hanging out with some guys and I see a hot girl, I might say "hey look at that chick!"

But also if you have girl who's a friend, I think chick-friend is better than trying to say "a girl who's a friend" because you can't call her a girl friend. Same way that girls say "guy friends" instead of boy friends.

It's not really offensive, but it's a little insincere (like couples who call eachother 'babe' ewww).
I think it depends on the people, it can be sincere with some but with others you can usually tell the insincerity.

I'm a woman (21 years old), and I use the word "chick" to refer to other girls, and "dude" to refer to guys. It's just the way I speak in real life - and I define myself as a Feminist.

I get called "guy", "dude" and "man", women can deal with "girl", "chick" or "lady".
None of them are offensive.

Lately I have been calling other girls 'chick'.
And unless they mean the word in an offensive way by the tone of their voice, I have no problem being called a chick. They are so cute. ^^

it's part of guy talk ... and if women overhear and it upsets them ... oops
Hmm.. I wasn't aware that upset us. The word "chick" has never offended me. It's actually just like a guy calling another guy "dude".

I get mad if someone says... see you next tuesday. XD
