9dragons used to be okay, but then they added the permanent immovable ad banner on the top of the screen, which destroyed what little immersion there was. I can't feel excited about kicking the crap out of zombies when I'm being flashed Viva Pinata ads constantly. Also, for a martial arts-based game, it's rather curious that there are no physics whatsoever. Hell, you can't even jump. Everything's done using scripted animation. Eh.
Needless to say, most free MMOs (and holy crap there are a lot of them) aren't worth playing.

Anything controlled by Aeria Games.
Horrible localization, hardly any customer support, and top that off with the icing of a mediocre community.
They screwed up a Shin Megami Tensei game. How on Earth do you do that?
Wait, I know. Don't support the users or update the game.

Some MMOs are just great by design.
However, bad communities and support can break even the best of games.

Didn't care for WoW, but not bad by any means. RuneScape is alright. Had me into it for a while (mute public chat people, does wonders) but I'm inactive right now. Never played Guild Wars. Couldn't get Bots or 2Moons to work, and 9Dragons was alright until they put the ad banner up. Never played an online anime game. Sooo I'll say PotC. That game was garbage.

Runescape. To me its more of a starter MMO but really you can get to lv 20 in an hour if you try.

I picked Runescape because what does it have?... There's other free MMORPGs that have more fun in fishing or crafting than Runescape's non-sense. I was gonna say WoW but it's only overrated, it's great but way overrated. At least Guild Wars is free basically. Good thing my favorite MMORPG, although I stop playing these type of games, isn't listed. :D

Glad to see no one picked City of Heroes/Villains and only one person picked Guild Wars. Though I'm surprised by all the people that picked WoW. I'm not a fan, but I would hardly consider it the worst online game.

Even if i don't really understand the WoW-likey and some other games' success, they are far from worst. There are many chinese and Korean grindfests where you have no freedom, no story, no difference in stats, class or even looks of your character (Face A, B, C anyone?) and about 5 different monsters and after that color swaps of the same... it is embarressing. One (Or many) of this clones clearly are the worst in my opinion.

Personally, I'm gonna have to go with Maple Story. I didn't really like the art design (okay, so I hated it) and I've never been a fan of lighthearted games unless they are done right (ie Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard). I've always preferred the darker MMOs, such as Requiem: Bloodymare. Plus, it seemed like it was trying to be an old school game like Mario with all of the platforming, and I had never really cared for Mario so...
