Nothing is going to "kill WoW", it is much to big, and when it does die, it will not be caused by any one game. Much like the Roman Empire, it must weaken severely interally before outside forces stand a chance.

My thoughts: They should just make KOTOR 3 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.163876]

Why is it always "will X over throw WOW" - each game will always have its own market, tor for the Star Wars geeks, STO for the trekkies and WOW for everyone else and thats why games will never beat wow - it suits everyone of all types. Games should not try to beat wow or try to compete with it - EVE doesnt, LOTRO doesnt and as far as im aware they are both doing fine without trying to compete with WOW.

Hah. This old chestnut?

Some observations over the years:

Warhammer Online is going to be so much better than World of Warcraft-- a true Wow-killer in the making! ORKS > ORCS OMG

Aion is going to be so much better than world of warcraft-- a true wow-killer indeed! YOU HAVE WINGS WTF!!!

Champions Online is the greatest game and will totally kill WoW. You can wear TIGHTS YES FINALLY!

Guild Wars: its like WoW, but without all the WoW factors! YAY!

Lord of the Rings: Online: Holy shit, HOBBITS instead of HALFLINGS.

Dungeons and Dragons Online: I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Eve Online: Spaceships! NOW WITH TWICE THE GRIND!

Hellgate London: Seriously, did anyone think this was going to be a wow killer? Idk.

Tabula Rasa: Should have been a movie.

To make a game that could compare at that pricepoint would take a billion dollar investment, at this stage. Blizzard has so much development tied up in WoW that it is really staggering. The only WoW-like mmorpg that is going to kill WoW will be Worlds of Starcraft. I totally forsee fighting your way to a gate that you step through in order to play in the starcraft universe.

You know what'll kill WoW?

WoW will kill WoW. Eventually after many years it'll putter out from old age until there's only one server left where everyone lives.

It has over eleven million active accounts. WoW's not going to get killed by a game. Ever.

WoW won't be killed but eventually it will get old, if those expansions keep going like that you'll soon be playing a lvl 115 Murloc Power Ranger whose specialty are dual laser sabers that were made with the new profession Energy Weapons.

Old Republic has 2 games to back it up and they were ok at best. WoW has 3 pc games with brilliant stories to back it up and more money than several European nations put together. I may try Old Republic, same with FFIV, but I won't stop playing WoW because I have several friends who still play and I just started playing Alliance for the first time ever and while it's still the same world with most of the same quests, it's just different enough to keep me plowing through it.

WoW is still going strong but itll one day run out of space. There'll only be so many new places/classes/races to put in and eventually it'll become too tedious to make new characters, especially to new players. What I think anyway.

No.

1. They cater to two different groups, fantasy fans and sci-fi fans. while the two groups prolly overlap a whole lot, theres still lots of people who prefers one way mor ethan the other.

2. Way too many people are way too invested in WoW. Both time-wise, where they've farmed their way to lvl 80 and great gear on several characters and also socially, where many people play it as much for the whole social guild thingy as for the actual game. So they're not gonna give up their online friends.

3. WoW has like what? 5 years on it's back, so it's prolly a lot less bug-ridden than a new MMO would be. And once TOR becomes more stable it'll ahev lost it's "new" value.

So while i think TOR could easily be the better game, i don't think it's gonna kill WoW, or take it's 1st place.

For the record, i quit WoW a few years ago. And i'm not planning on picking it up again, neither am i plannign on picking up TOR. I've gotten tired of MMO's alltogeather. So i guess i'm pretty unbiased.

TOR will not be it, and neither will the Star Trek game.

I find your lack of faith disturbing.
OT:Time will tell, Bioware is a god on RPGs in my opinion but an MMO is something different.

There is no such thing as a WoW killer, you can't kill it, never will. It will die out itself.

^ I'll go one step further though, and say that the only thing that's going to kill WoW, is Blizzard, by shifting towards a more casual player. They're going to kill the game's structure, in order to bring in the less active player. It's been happening for quite some time.
Honestly, I think that change in mindset is the best thing that ever happened to the game.

No, as much as I'd like WoW to have some competion, it would be good for the game, nothing will stand up against WoW.
