no, world of war craft 2 is the only thing that can over throw wow, and i fear it, you should all fear it, REPENT, REPENT BEFORE WOW2 IS MADE
They're releasing a new ex pac next year for WoW, it'll change the entire game, so I've got plenty of time before they release WoW2.

On topic, all 'WoWers' I knew before Warhammer said they'd leave WoW for War as soon as it came out. They did. And then they came back. People have invested too much time into WoW for it to die, it'll end up like Everquest where it has outdated graphics and dodgy quests but people still play it.

Oh wait...

Noone will beat wow as noone can grasp what made wow so addicting. All game companies jumped at MMO genre thinking that this is a good way to earn money. But MMOs proved to be EXTREAMLY dangerous investment. One cannot predict what will happen with his mmo. Potential gains are huge but risks are even bigger and already a few companies may be in serious troubles becouse of their mmos. Huge budget, almost no profits if things will go bad and still noone really knows what makes wow so succesful. I think that now we will see a decline in MMOs being made as devs will finally understand that this is far to risky and only ones who make a fortune on an MMO is Blizzard.

The only real competition I see is actually Guild Wars 2. Not becouse it's revolutionarry but becouse it has no monthly subscription.

in my book blizzard is already killing WoW.

(BLASPHEMY!!! BEN, U R JUST BEING A TROLL AND DONT LIKE CHANGE LOL.)

allow me to elaborate:

No, the class mechanics, forum trolls arent "killing WoW" so to speak, but there is one thing that is that even people who have never played the game can see from 10 feet away:

Cataclysm.

The entire game will be changing, whether for better or for worse. Face it, this is literally WoW2.

...theres that, or when i finally get around to making a zombie apocalypse MMO.

WoW won't be killed but eventually it will get old, if those expansions keep going like that you'll soon be playing a lvl 115 Murloc Power Ranger whose specialty are dual laser sabers that were made with the new profession Energy Weapons.
...
For that I'd reactivate my account.

Hellgate London: Seriously, did anyone think this was going to be a wow killer? Idk.
Actually, I reallllllly like the idea behind it. It would have made a great single player RPG/FPS. Be nice if I could actually find it in stores though..

OT: Two games that could kill WoW. Remember that MMO they were talking about before WoW? About how you could play in The Matrix? That would be so uber awesome it would bring in everyone. No gnomes, but being in The Matrix would totally make up for the lack of cute.

Or that Starcraft one. Being in the Starcraft universe would again make up for the lack of gnomes.

OOT: A friend made my char for me to get me into the game, I usually don't play as a female, and don't play gnomes, but for some reason I really like my character. They make awesome 'locks. lol

Nothing is going to "kill WoW", it is much to big, and when it does die, it will not be caused by any one game. Much like the Roman Empire, it must weaken severely interally before outside forces stand a chance.
Like gold seller spam, grinder sellers and nerfs all round? Yea, it's going to take a lot more than severely weakened internally to kill it off.

could the old republic kill world of warcraft i think so with if the previews are true 100% voiced dialogue plus it is being developed by bioware what are your thoughts
hahahahahaha......no

no reviews or previews are going to "kill" wow.

WoW would loose a couple of subscribers, only to have them return after few months.

I didn't even look at what game he is talking about because I laugh whenever someone asks if another MMO is going to be a WoW killer

No new MMO can 'overthrow' WoW, they way that no new Sci-Fi show on TV can overthrow Star Trek, pretty much for the same reasons: While both brought very few new concepts to the table, the combination of being in the right place at the right time, as well as being a notch above similar products in quality at the time created a product that not only appealed to the 'nerd' demographic, created a gateway into the genre for millions of non-nerds as well. What's more, WoW is now, what, five years old? That makes it 'a classic' in digital gaming terms, whcih pretty much makes it immortal.

You mean this one.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Matrix_Online

The game that ran from 2005 till the servers were shutdown in 2009.

RIP Matrix Online.

Also for your information, it didn't bring in "everyone", it died a slow, painful death due to a lack of subscriber's. One of the first to die by WoW.

:O Noooooooooooooes!! It didn't even make it to Aus dammmit!! How well was it advertised? As far as I knew, it hadn't made it out of Beta and I try to keep up with games.

WoW I see on T.V. whenever I get around to turning it on, that I hadn't heard of. :(

Every new MMO that is released is a WOW Killer. Each one has failed miserably (I had hopes for you Warhammer Online, but you have failed me). I don't think anything will catch WOW anytime soon

I wanted WAR to be good too but at the time there just werent enough people to make the pvp or pub. quests work. AoC could have been amazing if it wasnt so broken upon release, took over a year to repair. They offer some "free" re-activation periods but they all involve paying for a month first and thats now just over £10.
