Almost every game that I can think of has writing on the walls, usually for dramatic effect.

In recent years, I have began to notice the writing less and less, to a point where I caught myself walking past 10ft words written in blood, and I barely even glanced at it. I remember when writing on the walls was rare, and immediately grabbed your attention, like in Portal, but now, even in good games like Spec Ops, I barely even notice it.

Is it just that it's a trope that is becoming more common, or are we all desensitized to it?
After you vote in the poll which is why you are here, aren't you post about your most memorable wall-reading event.

Oh, LITERAL writing on the walls. I gotcha. Portal 2 gets points for effing RADIO on the walls with the Ratman signals and such.

Bioshock has tones of shit written on the walls in blood.

L4D1 & 2, also had some great ones like "I miss the internet".

Also, Madoka Magica. Yes, it's not a game, but it's got passages from faust written on some of the walls, so it gets a free pass.

I don't know why society collapsing encourages people to start writing things everywhere, but I usually find the writing interesting.

Yup, and I usually stop and take the time to read it. I can be annoying to play with if Left 4 Dead. My team will be leaving the safe house and I'll be like, "I'll catch up in five".

"Here I sit, broken hearted, came to shit, and the world ended."

"I saw one poop a foot!"

I think "cool story bro" pops up under a lengthy piece of poetry :D
