The Y-Axis. To invert it implies a sense of third person, where you pull back on your stick to pull back his head, and raise the line of vision as if your sticks were attached to his skull via ropes. To leave it uninverted shows a sense of first person, where you are moving his head as if you were inside his body.

After a heated discussion with a gamer friend a day ago, we couldn't agree on which way the total gamer percentage would lie...

So tell me, do you invert, or not?

EDIT - I should've clarified, i'm primarily talking about first and third person shooters, not so much flying games where inverted is a realistic portrayal of real life pilot's controls.

I hate anything inverted, and i mean everything. Except flying, but its technicaly alreaded inverted as normal so that doesnt count.

Non-inverted. If i'm playing an fps, you want the first-person experence as the genre's name suggests. That, and you want the controls to be relatively simple- up is up, and down on the joystick is down.

I always Imagine that I tilt my head backwards when I pull the thumbstick backwards, so, for me, I want it inverted.

Normal in most games; however, when I get to control some sort of flying vehicle and its controls don't include a default inverted Y-axis that bugs me. A lot.

I fly planes, so for me, pulling sticks back is synonimous with stuff looking upwards.

Now, per genre:
Shooters - obviously normal on PC, inverted on consoles
Camera in third person games - if I were looking at the back of my character, pulling back should make me look up, and pulling left should make me look to the left.

I usually leave it as normal. It's just awkward for me to get used to it when I invert it.

On shooters I usually keep it on normal, but I won't bother to change it if it's already inverted and the whole control scheme is good as it is.

In third person games, pulling the analogue stick down should put the camera on the ground, resulting in looking up, so inverted.

Both make some sense.
But "normal" is actually the inverted one...

Inverted! I always play inverted!
I'm not sure why...I think because I equate pushing up on the stick to actually pushing 'forward' on my body's tilt. Same with pulling it down, or 'back' (for me). So it's not 'up' and 'down' for me, but lean forward and backward.

I prefer inverted but now that you mention it, it's probably because I played air/space craft simulations before I played an fps.

If it's a person I'm piloting, it is always normal.
If it's a vehicle, it has to be inverted.

I find that inverted separates me too much from the action, because I want to think that I'm piloting the person rather than a camera flying along behind him.

Normal on a gamepad, inverted on a mouse. I have no idea why I just got used to it that way but I control it all without thinking and if it's not the right way around I play very badly.

I actually used to play all my games inverted for a long time. For some reason though I suddenly just stopped and reverted back to normal - I think because I played a game that forced me to play only on normal - no option to change it.

However, even though I play normal I still stick to inverted for flying controls.

It's weird for me, I never know until I start playing the game. Best example I can give is I play CoD4 normal but Halo 3 inverted.
