I can see how if you like one you hate the other actually works. Usually people hang onto a medium that defines "who they are", and generally try and defy any other mediums that gets in their mediums way because they either find them threatening, in jest, or downright insulting. I watched the "My Little Pony" first episode and my first reactions throughout the episode were

"This is Stupid" - 5 minutes

"This is still Stupid" - 10 minutes

"I'm beginning to like the main character..." - 15 minutes

"My mind is blown, this actually has plot?!" - 20 minutes

"I'M TRAPPED!" - end of show

If I were to compare this to Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden (Hurricane Chronicles), I can easily state that story wise, Naruto is clearly defeated by MLP. However, Content wise, people would argue since Content is the Anime's strength, which is actually the only reason why I continue watching it otherwise I would have punted Naruto myself by now for being a dumbass.

If I used the famous FMA (Full Metal Alchemist), that is a show that I truthfully cannot put down in any way, shape, or form. It is on top of my favorites for Story, Content, and pretty much anything involving literature.

However, I have not actually watched enough of MLP to create a formal analysis, but enough to state that it has clearly built up a story straight from the beginning and is meant for people who are secure with their own masculinity; while Naruto built as it went (with a world that was already created) and is about a boy who is moving up in the world with good old sacrifice and work; FMA pretty much from my perspective wrote it all out before they even started (Which I call the 'Tolkien Method'), either that or they were very thurough in their writing, which I still admire, and is about the search for the impossible and the pains and sacrifice to achieve it no matter what.

So in short? I like anything that shows that it is art, it is beautiful, and can take me into a world that I can logically understand, or at least can entertain me and can be used to make people laugh when I tell them I watch it :p

So lesson to be learned, don't be close minded; it's bad, m'kay.

EDIT: After further Analysis of MLP:FoM, since I have not have enough time to actually watch past episode 1, It is all just stupid fun :p Nothing wrong with stupid fun of course, and it is a good trainer for confidence. It saddens me though, I love a shit ton of story, as you could probebly tell from my love for FMA, especially since I am also a user of the Tolkien Method.

I haven't liked anime in years. Between this, Wakfu, Venture Brothers, Moral Orel, Phineas and Ferb, Superjail!, Adventure Time, and many more, Western animation is running circles around the Land of the Rising Sun for quite a while.

Maybe we can actually reign this thing back on topic.

MLP is a western animated cartoon. There's bright colors, lighter moods, cuteness factors off the charts, and all that jazz. And those kinds of things are things that help cartoons appeal to the younger demographic.

Anime is generally accepted as being directed to a more mature audience, and represents a completely different avenue from more westernized animation. You generally see darker themes, more violence, and largely more present sexualization.

So, why might they be related? Well, I can see the art style is a bit similar, and the people watching these shows seem to overlap more, what with MLP shattering that demographical wall. So are Anime and MLP directly related as far as viewership goes? As the poll and people have said, not really. Is it impossible for a person to like both? Evidently not, but it's about the same chance of a person liking hot dogs and hamburgers as opposed to either-or. They're both meat, but it's just not the same.

Captcha: Reaved inquiry. Huh, fitting.

And then you get Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt.

I'm sorry, but what was that supposed to mean Loop?

It's a show that is quite wild and wacky. And concerned with some adult themes. If the title didn't tell the story...

Have you seen it?

It takes the bright colours cuteness factor, 'all that jazz', and puts it into a setting with angels and devils and ghosts and sex and violence and poop monsters and bodily fluids and... I suppose I should've asked where you thought that..

... actually I'm not sure if I had a reason to mention it other than it's cool, and there's a picture floating around with Stocking and Twilight Sparkle together.

It's gone 7am, I'm off to bed. :|

I love anime and manga, and I love MLP.
I can understand how you might see some connection, the art style is somewhat reminiscent of panty/stocking/garter belt.

But then I'm not really that big on PSG so...

If there is a connection it's probably more due to a love of good looking animation. Most anime are MUCH nicer to look at than most cartoons. MLP stands out way above the pack.

I watch both but as mention already from others, there is no connection. However granted Genndy Tartakovsky (Lauren Faust husband) cartoon show "Powerpuff Girls" was very popular in Japan when they air it over there. Eventually they made a anime version of it called Powerpuff Girl Z. Regardless MLP:FiM animation style is western so it have no similarity with Eastern anime style at all.
