They want 580,000 for one 24 minute episode.
Jesus that's a lot of money, honestly it doesn't look THAT great. If it was released like other animes it might be one of the best of the season but people watch those for free, having all these people donate 580k for just one episode is just... so much.
Then again I have no idea what the productions costs are so it could be reasonable for all I know.
I don't know, it seems to be film quality. They may want to make a pilot episode, and then use that to get funding for a film or series. If they're just trying to get their idea off the ground, I could understand supporting it, since you're investing in the franchise and not the video itself. If its just a short, then I don't see the point.
Speaking of Kickstarting, It just made it's goal of 540,000 dollars today and as of this writing is at 614,822 dollars.
Lets hope the show is worth the money.
I looked into it, and it's apparently a lead up to a film trilogy or a television show, which is interesting. The art and action flow, and it seems to have more style than anything in recent memory. I'm curious to see where this goes, since this could be the first real AAA title produced through kickstarter. It's also nice to see someone skirt the bureaucracy. My only question is how on earth they intend to fund the rest of the series. Through profits? There's no telling if this will succeed or be any good, but fortune favors the bold.
It's also interesting that this project was so clearly aimed at American funding, and to some degree Europe. Anime usually (understandably) is aimed at Japan, but they really catered to Western audiences with their mention of Fire Emblem and other titles. This makes me wonder what role Westerners could play in anime.
They had my curiosity, but now they have my attention.
