The sole reason that it got me down, I do believe, was the sheer massiveness of it all. You could play as eight different races and who knows how many different classes and the sheer number of different cominbations was daunting. I didn't know where to start or what to start as. I was, and stil am, terrified of WoW.

Paying money for a game I've already paid money for really annoys me. Unless it's DLC that actually adds something, ala ArmA II or Fallout 3.

As well as that I don't like fetch quests, and really hate it when a whole game is made of them, paying to do something you hate is something I'm not really into. = P

Edit - Also I don't know anyone that plays... If I had a group of friends and they all got together and raided then I might consider it...

The grind. I think the one thing that kills Wow for me is the continous grind to get to the level max. I argued with one person a while back about this. He asked how it was fair for a noob player to have the same gear as those who have been playing for longer (which was curious, as I never said anything about that.) My main dislike is that when I played Wow, you would have to get to level 70 in order to actually participate in anything, as nobody was doing the old raids. I wanted to get the Dreadnaught armor for my warrior when I turned level 60, but nobody would do it, even within the guild I join. I kept getting the same fucking message, "Get to level 70, than the game starts!" I think there is a serious design flaw, somewhere, when this statement is able to hold true.

Maybe it was the guild I joined, but this seems to be a true statement for almost every max level player. I would think they would have a problem running through the old pre-crusade dungouns, they have to be board to death of the dungouns in Burning crusade by now. And thats another thing that bugs me. Once you get the best armor in the game, the best weapon, and best everything, what do you do? Either start all over again with a new character, or just continue raiding for fun (this is another topic I just dont want to get into, bad memories...)

Also doesnt help much when you cant get a group together because everyone is focused on "power leveling" to actually help you with particular quests.

Enjoyment per dollar. I can't just stop playing and come back a week later. I lose money then. It leeches money when I'm not playing. That puts a pressure that makes it feel like I have to play it, otherwise it's wasted. And that's when it stops being fun for me.
I forgot the fees. I cant figure out how anyone is okay with this. You pay money to play a game for a month, than what happens if you are unable to get on for about two weeks of the month? You lose two weeks worth of that monthly fee. IT just like XBL, I had a month left this summer on XBL, but than my internet went out for two weeks. Ends up those were my last two full weeks of XBL, and two days later, gone. Just seems like a horrible investment, and I mean Wow, not XBL (as I can get multiple games to play only, Wow im paying $15 a month to play one game...)

Hmm. I've been playing it and still do, with Cata out now. I'll agree with the community being generally inconceivably stupid fucksticks and trolls, however you can't really expect Blizz to police it like that, especially given that'd be money out of their pockets. I'd also agree with the fact that it is far, far too easy in most cases. That said I haven't been much into the raiding scene, for the above mentioned community issues. The game has fantastic flow and story now (only took 6 years amirite? >:D) and I have a hard time arguing about paying for the game monthly when I could spend more than that on a movie, or hell, a dinner. All in all, its a fantastic time-waster.

The biggest reason i quit is because of the combat system. It blows. There's almost no way to be good at something. Everything about the game is about luck and patience.

Now i can't play almost any mmo because they all have the exact same combat, and i get bored within the first few minutes.
Beggin' ta differ, sir.

The time commitment for me.

I just have other games I'd rather be playing.

I still keep track of all updates and additions and lore and stuff.

I'm a warcraft fanboy who just doesn't play World of Warcraft (not saying it's bad)

I dislike any game of that type. Takes the weak minded people and draws them in for days on end. I have personally seen this happen loads of times in my life....they sit there like the zombies that they are.....buying useless items on ebay and playing crappy games like WOW and Everquest and the like and they do that for hours on end...days on end.

You got my point.

Levelling new characters became a chore too as the vast majority of everything other than the endgame is empty. For someone who was there on day 1 it felt sparse and that I might as well be playing a single player game.

I think some of the earlier instances are much more entertaining but there's rarely anyone to do them as the aim is to get to the endgame as quickly as possible and doing instances actually slows you down (unless they added a big xp jump for completion since I went back about 2-3 years ago.)

I used to like it but got bored.

also the expense of the game was a factor of me quitting although I think I'll starting playing again with Cata out now. At least for a month or two

To be honest if it was free then I would play it, but I don't buy games that I probably won't like.

Major waste of money, very little in return (for me). It's basically far too boring and tedious to ever hold sway over me.

i certainly like the idea of it, thou im a little put off by the whole mythical aspect, also i never have a lot of time so its kinda lost on me. but my biggest problem is the monthly fees, you shouldnt have to keep paying to play a game youve already bought, if i had to pay a monthly payment for enjoyment i would just get a whore on retainer ha

True, I could spend several months worth of Wow subscription fees on just one game, so as my one friend argued, its pretty cheap. But my problem is that is still $15 for one game, and further more, one game that I have to play as SP since nobody cares to assist me, and than I get yelled at for not doing my job in a raid, Even though I was doing exactly what they fuck I was suppose to do (wasnt my fault I had to stop casting spells, My warlock was out of mana and running low on health to convert to mana, and the priests were to focused on healing the tank, which while I can understand the importance, does he really need all 6 priests healing him at once?)

I personally feel that while it may be cheaper than some, its not the best thing to spend my money on... But like someone said on the previous page, "I hate wow because of the people I have to play with, I love Wow because of the people I CHOOSE to play with." For me, unfortunatly, there was no choice...

Other:

Firstly, its a time and money commitment, but also, its just not that cool. Orks, elves, Humans, Dwarfs and the like, endlessly grinding away at hordes of enemies with cartoony graphics and its just goofy. It lacks a certain level of... style?

If you haven't played it yet, go play Maplestory! No fees, amazing graphics, fun gameplay and enemies and in general a great MMORPG that, while having the same drawbacks as all online levelup games, has such amazing style and atmosphere to it.

What turns me off any MMO is monthly fee's, and I feel that if I join, I would be pretty useless, since I don't understand most MMO terms, that and from what I hear it takes ages to get to a level where the game begins to be fun.

I love the concept however, you and a band of mates of various classes and skills tackling legions of foes together. Sounds cool.

these two quote are the exact reasons why i never cared for WoW or any other mmo. the basic idea is semi there but everything else after that are massive amounts of negative points, so fuck that.

The concept does indeed sound very cool.

The reality is a different matter. The main goal of any MMO is to keep you playing. And paying. So what it amounts to is a never ending carrot on a stick. At first the novelty can be appealing and draw you in. But once you advance beyond a certain point you realize something: "Hey, I am level 50 now. And my quests are all "Go kill X number of Mobs, collect Y from NPC and deliver it to another NPC". Haven't I done this before...about one thousand times?

Sure advancments bring things like new spells or weapons or abilities, but they are almost always just more powerful versions of what you already have and you need them to fight bigger things. Instead of fighting a brown wolf with 10 HP you are now fighting a white wolf with 1000 Hp. Same model, same sounds, different skin.

Having played MMOs since Asherons Call, I have watched each "new" design bring about more and more hand holding and dumbing down and for me personally it has made every single one of them dull, repetitive and utterly unimaginative. Death penalties are virtually non existant anymore, nothing can match the thrill of the lege4ndary corpse runs of days of old. Maybe I am just jaded and come off like an old man yelling at kids to get off the lawn. :) But that is my feeling on it, at one time they were fun but there is really nothing new under the sun.

I just get more entertainment out of story, and single player games always blow MMOs away in that department. Of course YMMV

I picked other. I still play it, but my computer kinda...sucks, so my WoW looks like an early era PS2 game. It doesn't really affect the game much(laag), it's just disheartening to play.
