For those who haven't seen it yet, here's a link to the Kick-starter page, which can explain what it is better then I can:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/crashgem/churbles-a-beautiful-3d-rpg-adventure

Just in case, the link didn't work, the main claim is that:
An adventure RPG featuring adorably tough heroes bursting with personality, a rich level of customization, and awesome art and music.
I will admit first off that, they are indeed pretty cute, though that may be more because they remind me far too much of my old pet hamster, Smoky (a chorus of angels sing ye into the night sweet prince :'I ).

Personally, I'm cautiously looking forward to it, and have already donated to the Kick-starter. I know that there a lot of other games that are kind of aiming for what their going for (quirky RPG with somewhat adorable characters with a pretty light-hearted sort of theme). But I like that they are sorting of going all the way with it: why stop at 'moe' looking humans when you can go all out with the most insulting cute designs of protagonists? I think I admire the vision as well, since they say if they can get enough support, your 'Guild Hall' will have all sort of bonus crap that's like catnip for me: customisable locations, pets, other NPC's running...doing hamster stuff, I guess?

Point is, I want to hear the general opinion going around the Escapist about this. Your thoughts, y'all?

Ehh...Fair enough, actually. I can see why somebody would dislike it, though I am curious about the disturbing aspect. Don't get me wrong, I am fully ready to accept that people will be put off by different things, just that I'm somewhat jaded since I kind of like the art style. Can you articulate what you mean by that? Or is it one of those type of disturbing where it's not tangible enough to describe?

Clicked the link, skimmed what it was, not interested.

Cool that they're only asking for 15 grand though, usually games go bigger. I never donate (because I think it's stupid, of course when I create my own project on KS I'll be begging for money).
Well, fair enough: I suppose the sort of combination of cutesy and RPG (with influences from both East and West, oddly) can make it a niche-y, so I can get why some people won't be jumping on the bandwagon so to speak.

I noticed that as well, and am kind of glad for it, really. It could be sign that they have their priorities straight, if nothing else, and are setting that as low as the bar can go, so that if they exceed that, they can really build on what they have. At least, that's how I see it.

I'm also put off by the art style. It just seems like something furries would get really into.

I think it is the eyes mainly they are so lifeless. Like something some demented toy maker would make to kill people.

Nah. I don't mind the art style, honestly, but I'm not sold on the "adorably tough" heroes that the game so proudly promotes.

[sub]The snakes are way more adorable than those 'Churbles,' anyway.[/sub]

Art style seems fine to me, to be honest.

But it seems like the gameplay is gonna be JRPG-like. That's what is putting me off.

Erm....Gotta admit, I don't really know what you mean by that. As in, you're worried Furries would get into it in a sexual way? Personally I don't see it, since the art style doesn't really put me into that kind of thought pattern, so it's doubtful that would be majorly the case*. Or do you mean you don't want to be part of a community that has Furries in it? If that's what you mean, I wouldn't worry bout that either: it's a RPG, not a MMO game, so all of the multiplayer aspects are going to be downplayed.

*Not denying that there are going to be...'extremists' who might get into it in that kind of way, but the large majority probably won't even have a single thought along those lines.

I will admit, the snakes are pretty adorable.
Though, fair enough to your opinion, if the concept doesn't grip you, no one can really call you out for that.

Thanks for the link, going to support it. I have nothing against cute critters and JRPGs, so this is fine for me.
Good to hear ^_^ Glad to see the Escapist still has some affiliation for the cute and (kinda) turn based.

It just seems a bit... average, I guess? At least it does to me. I don't know, I found the art style a bit like something my multimedia class made in TAFE (technical college). It just seems a bit derivative in all ways.

I shan't be donating, but best of luck to them, I guess.

It's about magical hamsters... that's pretty much enough to put me off right away. Plus it describes itself as beautiful - I would dispute this point, in my opinion graphically it looks like a bargain basement game from the PS2 age. Plus looking at the gameplay there really wasn't anything there that hasn't been done already or that sounded especially exciting. More than anything all the buzzwords packing actual descriptive value put me off e.g. "More than that, you will find an engaging story about teamwork, heroism, and bravery; gameplay that is both fresh and familiar; and a level of player and character interaction rarely seen before".
