It's not my thing, the sad thing is that to some of the songs I tried to listen to they always start out great but as soon as the vocals start I have to turn it off.

I like progressive metal, and nu metal a little. Then again, I hate classifying my music via genre so here is my favorite metal bands:
Avenged Sevenfold
Metallica
Deep Purple
Bring me the Horizon
Three Days Grace
Pantera

I so love death metal cuz I'm a metalhead at heart, but I like it more when its melodic-death like In Flames for my most favorite example.

Personally id say they are more akin to Battle Metal, like Turisas.

For me it's Himsa and also Slayer (technically not Death Metal but Reign In Blood really does sound like a Death Metal albumn)

I like death metal, but not much. There are some undeniably good bands and artists in the genre, a la, Dethklok, All Shall Perish, Mercyful Fate, Job for a Cowboy, etc. I do find death metal sometimes a bit too forced and some bands don't really have much identity, but no, I like it. There are some very skilled musicians in death metal though, most certainly.

i depise it. don't get me wrong i have tried to like it but to no avail. the amount of people who nhave given me albums to try and each one had been shit. it's just one loud chord played too fast to a guy with too much testosterone tearing his lungs to shreds with what soud to me like one word...'Toast'. i swear when i try death metal all i hear is "toast toast toast..."

EDIT: saw Job For A Cowboy as support for Megadeth in 2008. they got 2 songs in and were booed off...we did get 30 mins of additional Megadeth though, so i suppose death metal is good for some stuff...like more real music.

I don't hate it. I simply don't understand it. And those vocals always creep me out.
Soon you will learn.... Young one....
No I won't, and who the bleep do you think you are, my father? I simply don't like it and never will. Or can't you understand that? I'm more into indie rock, ok? Just leave me alone. And never talk to me again. Thanks.

EDIT: Besides, I'm older than you.
Dude...... Calm down, I was kidding around.

Love it! I can see why many people don't like it though, it's hard to appreciate bands like Nile or Behemoth they are way too extreme for many people.

Never really understood why people enjoy it but then again people wonder why I love the strong loud strain of electric synths so I can't have a go at them for it.

I like death metal. There's just something about the raw emotion that goes into that I really enjoy. I'm going to Mayhem fest this summer and I can't wait to see Winds of Plague. Check them out if you enjoy death metal.

I can see why people like it, but it's just out of my 'like' range. The heaviest stuff I go for is Devildriver, Arch Enemy and 8 Foot Sativa really, that kind of thing.

And I do love me a good bit of 'Sativa.

No... just... no. Mudvayne is NOT death metal, at all. It's like, mainstream nu-metal, and most people in death metal are far more talented than ANY member of Mudvayne.
I refuse to dignify that comment with a response... except this

Considering that every single death metal si... vocal cord user I've heard sounds like a fucking idiot, I'm no fan of this genre of sound-making.
Vocalists of the genre vary in delivery and style. Sometimes the growling takes a back seat for synthed vocals(See Necrophagist vs. Cynic) or mix it up with percussion/melody(Opeth is a great example, seeing as they often accentuate long delivery with exaggerated exhalations. A good song for this is Serenity Painted Death). What I truly find fascinating is that the message can vary while still being equally important to a genre.

Such as Deaths "1000 eyes" commenting on the degeneration of individuality and the poisonous affect of concessions for safety in contrast to Cannibal Corpses "Hammer Smashed Face", which is a gore based song. While lyrical content may stray from each other, they are both used to great effect alongside the instrumentation.

In fact, all of the death metal folks that I have actually met have been extremely intelligent and knew their abilities when it came to putting together a piece.

EDIT: Also, vocal chords aren't used so much as pitch control is used in unision with force of exhalation.

I just started listening to Nile. Could you suggest a few songs?

Yeah, it's silly, eh?

I may love the metal community but we have the worst elitists I've ever heard. I don't really listen to them but from what I have heard, their instrumental presentations certainly are metal.

EDIT; blargh, I have to read things more than twice it seems, I misread it. It could be the coffee I've recently come into after a dry spell. They aren't death metal, no, but they are metal. I thought you were just another nu-metal basher, my apologies.
