Not so much death metal like Cannibal Corpse and such. But I love, love, LOVE melodic death metal!

Only band that even gets close to being Melodeath in there is In Flames...
You do know that DT is basically In Flames's darker twin?
But King Crimson can be darker than both these bands, doesnt make them Death Metal, so your point is?
Less emphasis on "dark", more emphasis on "twin". Compare older DT albums with older In Flames albums and tell me that they don't sound similar.
Well ye, but in the link its the new album, which is alternative metal. And the jester race from inflames has a great deal of Folk melodies.
I like the folk melodies. A thing I noticed about The Gallery is that it had some influences from Spanish music.
Thats pretty cool, but i think we were arguing over the topic of melodeath, and i still dont see your point, forgive my blindness. :p
I'm derailing, and I can admit being wrong for posting "new" Dark Tranquillity.

I'm a metaller and I can't stand listening to Death Metal (Thrash is the most extreme I go). Undecipherable screaming and growling just doesn't do anything for me, I got to be able to hear the lyrics.

However, I do have a grudging respect for Death Metal. Technically, it's flawless. Generally speaking, those bands really know how to play their instruments properly. In fact, my favourite band (Porcupine Tree) take a lot of their instrumental inspirations from Extreme Metal in their later albums, claiming it to be where "all the musical genius has gone".
Why do you need to be able to hear the lyrics? Lyrics are probably the least important part of the music. More people need to think of vocals as just another instrument like a guitar or drums or whatever. I can listen to instrumental music or music where the lyrics are indecipherable if it's kept interesting musically, but I can't listen to Bob Dylan. His lyrics are brilliant at times, but his music is bland as shit. So many people care about lyrics, but the fact is that if you're looking to musicians for answers to your problems, in the words of Daron Malakian, you're going to end up with more problems than you started with.

Also, Porcupine Tree are one of the most egotistical bands out there at the moment, and that's one thing that needs to be removed from music as well. 20 minute songs that are mainly solos? Fuck that.
You could see vocals as an instrument, but there's very little point in them if you do, just listen to an instrumental track, simples.

As a retired poet and the occassional lyricist I like to understand the meaning of a song. I don't turn to music for my answers, I can think for myself, but I like to think of some songs as telling a story and I like to appreciate a finely crafted song, the mood the music sets along with the words the singer is so elegantly (sometimes) puts forward. Of course there are some bands where I really couldn't care less about the lyrics, I listen to Rammstein for example, but it really depends what mood I'm in. However, I put this question to you: If Death Metal isn't about the words at all then why write them in? Why not have someone scream and growl down a mic with no purpose other than screaming and growling?

Also, just as a side note, I would just like to comment that I find it highly contradictary that you've slated Porcupine Tree for being "egotistical" and should be removed when alot of their influences come from the likes of Death Metal, and that's why I stuck up for the genre in the first place.

I don't think Death Metal should die, it just isn't my cup of tea where the vocals are concerned, but that's just my opinion, the instrumentals are fantastic. Don't get so defensive because I put a little personal input on the subject of which I was asked for in the first place.

Yes, nothing better than good death metal.
Notice how I say "good" death metal and keep in mind that 90% of all artists of all genres suck.

Horrid. The vocals always annoy me.
And the shitty, uninteresting guitar playing and the repetitive drumming and the most unescessary bass player in any musical genre (Seriously, no one can hear you. Why are you in the band?).

But I'm a classic rock/jazz/blues snob so of course I hate it, I think most of it's appeal comes from the angsty/angry energy it exudes.

Are you sure you were listening?
No bass is almost the same as no drums!

I used to listen to death metal almost exclusively about a year ago and I still do listen to it occassionally, however, of late, I've been finding myself in preference of genres like drum and bass, dubstep, minimal techno, and such. I still listen to metal, just not as much as I used to.
