Usually 20%. Less to none if their service sucked, perhaps even 25% if the service was amazing.

I'm not really a restauranty person but I don't see myself tipping. Yes I'm tight and frankly I could care less about the staff.

Tipping just seems like a weird practice to me, They get paid to do their jobs so why are we giving them extra money ?

20% if the service is passable. 25% if it was excellent. Just enough to round the bill up to the next dollar on the credit card slip if it sucked.

Because they get paid less than minimum wage because the state assumes they're going to make their money in tips. Some servers are paid as little as $3 an hour in regular wages. Using the "they get paid to do their jobs" excuse just marks you as a cheapskate.

Plus, word to the wise: A lot of women will break up with a guy who doesn't tip well because of what it says about his character. You put yourself behind the dating 8-ball when you're a cheap bastard. So if you must be a selfish git, think of the tip as part of the price of talking a girl into bed.

I'm aware that's why I said I was tight.
Also I'm not in US so I don't think its the same case for ours. Even so if I was on a holiday there I wouldn't tip.
