I'm not fond of beer, I'd much rather have a lager, some beers I like such as London Pride, Adnams ales or Bombardier.

However if I'm going for a night out with my mates i drink Jagermeister and Red Bull :D.
red bull has nothing to do with alcohol...

Are you familiar with the term "mixers"? I quite like Red bull and vodka personally, gives me a buzz which lasts a good hour or two.
ohh i'm gonna try that out!!!

To Beer...

The college student mentality that most my age have is the stereotypical "Drink till we can't feel feelings anymore." attitude. Drink till we're smashed, till we're worse than a man in the midst of an ether binge (nothing more depraved), and wake up the next morning groggy and hungover looking forward to doing it again.

I'm past that though, for two reasons, number one, I'm not a fan of hangovers, and number two... currently i'm in a bit of trouble with my own school for drinking...heh...

I love beer, but can't stand the smell of taste of wine. Acidic fruity sweet doesn't go well with alcohol. I love Rice alcohol (s.g. Sake) though, just don't have the money or time or opportunity to drink any.

From reading this poll I have deduced two things:

1) Either half the posters are underage (and not mentioning it), thus showing their dislike for alcohol in general (not to mention lack of knowledge).

2) You Americans and your perspectives on booze is quite scary.

Me? I'm a cider man. I'll drink Lager or Bitter when offered, but nothing beats a good bit of scrumpy.

Hahaha, I fucking love that song.

Anyway, I love beer. It is definitely my alcoholic drink of choice. Occasionally I'll feel experimental and I'll try out a few different cocktails at a bar or something, but the vast majority of the time it's beer for me.

I like kind of lighter stuff, lager and ale and hefeweizen and stuff like that. My current favorite is a local ale called Shipyard. And the same brewery makes a pumpkin ale this time of year that is quite tasty as well.

One of my cousins killed himself by drinking antifreeze because it contained alcohol and he was too addicted not to. That's put me off drinking.

I really don't enjoy the taste of beer, and for quite a while after my 18th, I still refused to consume alcohol. And then someone got me to try a Strongbow Original Cider. Man, that stuff is awesome. I mean, I usually don't drink more than 2 or 3 bottles when I'm out with my mates, and virtually never otherwise, but I enjoy the taste, and it helps me loosen up a bit. Try a Strongbow.
This guy's got it pretty much right. When I was young, I couldn't do the whole beer thing; it just tasted bad to me. Then I tried Guinness, and I absolutely loved it. It was the beer that got me into beer. (Strangely, I don't much care for Guinness anymore.)

Beer is great; you've probably only tried shit beers, because they're what's available at parties and for underage drinkers. Some friends and I started a Beer Appreciation Club at my university, and the constitution includes provisions that forbid members from drinking Kokanee, Budweiser, or Molson Canadian at meetings for exactly that reason.

If you look through your local microbreweries, you're likely to find something you'll like. I recommend starting off with lighter beers - lagers and pilsners, probably - because pale ales and stouts might be a bit strong for the beer beginner.
