In a single player game would you ever try a cheating glitch?

My answer is: never on the first playthrough, I like to know I don't need to use them. Later games - Yes, I like to try them all out to see if they work, and to have some fun trying different things out.

I've only ever occasionally sinned:

Deus Ex's lockpick/hack trick: Start picking a lock/computer tooling a thing, bring up your inventory screen for a few seconds and exit. The lock/terminal will be opened with you only ever having expended one resource point (often takes 3-5). Didn't abuse it when I beat the game on realistic, HARDCORE!

Total Annihilation. I used to spam the metal & energy generator in skirmish mode. I basically treated the game as a beautiful sandbox war game anyway, so I didn't see the issue!

Depends on the game, and the cheat. If the computer is playing against me and something I do fails unfairly because of a glitch in the game, I'll cheat if necessary (Case in point, the original Mercenaries, where I was randomly shot up 50ft in the air). If another human manages to put you in a tight spot, then don't cheat.

I used the duplication glitch in Oblivion to fill up Cloud Ruler Temple with watermelons.

HL2:DM matches get a lot more interesting when everybody turns on noclipping and UT2004 requires some creative tactics when playing CTF in godmode. In short, yes. And in games like GTA and oblivion, half the fun comes from messing arround.

Oblivion especially! There are some really fun things you can do with the cheating glitches in Oblivion!

a glitch? yeah, probably, if I knew about it, I wouldn't be able to not to use it, unless it made the game stupid to play (like the glitch in Legend of Zelda Link to the Past that allows you to beat the game in 5 minutes by walking through the walls. Item duplication glitch in FF7? yeah, I'll use it. Instant Exp glitch in KOTOR/Fallout 3? yeah, I'll use it.

On the otherhand, I wouldn't use a cheat CODE in the same effect - a code that gave unlimited amounts of the same item.. or a code that skips a level, or a code that sets your level to 99.. It's a thin difference, but that's me.

Yeah, like a "God Mode" kind of thing would make the game too easy to enjoy in Oblivion, but at the same time, it is fun in Fallout 3 just to use to go to Vault 87's door (because otherwise you will never see it).

I find I lose interest in the game very quick if I use cheats... and it disables trophy's/achievements.

Used to, but then I noticed I don't get any fun from the game. Like I used to play all FPS games with god mode and so on because I was afraid I might die.

Now I play on Hard, yay.

Ah cheats, the heroine of gaming. Once you start, it's hard to stop and the experience slowly dies as you do it more and more. I try and stay off the stuff.
