For a few years now I have wanted to learn to play the piano but I feel that I am to old to start.
The main reason being at my age(17) my hands have become accustomed to working as one (not independently IE melody and rhythm) so was wondering have I missed out by not starting sooner

(Also I tried the search bar I don't think this has been done before)

You're definitely not out of luck yet; my mother's nearly 50 years old, and she just started learning to play the piano a year ago. You just need to find enough time.

You're never too old to learn new things. It isn't that hard to learn the piano.

As long as you have the time, and (more importantly) the patience to keep practicing you should be fine.

There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to start. You may not learn as quickly as a younger person, but as long as you practice regularly you should be at a reasonable level in a reasonable amount of time.

My grandma learned to play in her 30's and she was playing in a county band a few years later
I would say go for it and good luck :)

If you'd like to be a professional, I don't know. But if it's just for fun, as a hobby, you're never too old. And if you wanna be pretty good at it, it won't take an eternity. You'll get accustomed to it, you've got a whole life ahead of you.
I myself would like to try it out once, and I'm 18. You're not too old.

I used to practice, but I didn't have the patience to keep with it. If you've got that, it's all just practice. If you can type fairly quickly and accurately, you can play the piano.

You can do it! Cut his fu

It's not easy, but people learn at all stages of life. I'll likely learn to at some point. Just not now. To busy.

I don't know. Does it really matter if it is possible or not?

The way I would look at this, is that you won't know if you don't try. I suggest taking lessons and seeing if you like it first of all. After that there is no reason why you can't learn. Even if there was some crucial brain element, the brain doesn't stop developing till you're in your twenties. So get those musical brain muscles into shape!

Sure you can get better, but it is like sports. THose who have natural talent will almost always be better than the guy that sucks and tries to change it.

You'll be at a bit of a disadvantage because your brain will be beginning to struggle to learn new things now but you can still do it.

Of course not.

You can learn almost anything, despite your age. It might be more difficult, but it is still possible. Also, seventeen is still fairly young. You have plenty of time to learn new things and succeed at them.

You can still learn the piano. Even if you think you are, give it a shot. What's the worst that can happen?
