No, because sooner or later they are just going to start putting fusion coils everywhere and that will be the end of all mankind.

I would git this power to some one who doesn't want it. Someone who doesn't think they're worthy of this power. I would give it to...Steve Rogers. Because he deserves it.

If it was not me, then there is no chance that I would let this happen.

It is not that I am incorruptible, but rather that I am unwilling to allow another to so obviously transcend me in every single manner.

I recognize that this might be a little selfish of me, but I cannot get past the idea of being able to create a god, and that I could not do it for myself.

If a normal human were to become a god, they would like the gods of greek or norse mythology and just be a giant dick with a lot of magic powers and immortality.

i clicked yes. As the poor, unfortunate, person who was granted Phenominal Cosmic Power (in a teeny little living space. Aladdin reference, my apologies.) would probably just go away and mess around with the universe (mulitverse?) on a far more fundamental and grander scale than we tiny ants could ever begin to comprehend

I'd give to the job to a very intellectual and more importantly LOGICAL AND CALCULATED person - probably a renowned scientist. Then they probably wouldn't make the world 'perfect' in an instant - they'd actually take a minute to think of the consequences such as overpopulation.

Voltaire didn't mean that literally, it was more an argument that a paternalistic society needs the concept of "God the Father." Deus Ex meant it literally. I agree with Voltaire-some people need something to believe in. The best Deus Ex quote was from the second game, oddly enough.

"The only frontier that has ever existed is the Self."

I chose no, but if I had to pick someone...Teddy Roosevelt.

There's a shade of this that isn't hypothetical at all; there's already one God-man. His name is Jesus the Christ.

And as far as the world being freed from disease, crime, suffering, and death - it already has had freedom proclaimed to it. That liberation is something that has already begun, but is not yet finished. It began with His death on the cross, which paid the price of all of our crimes, and was revealed when He walked out of the tomb in which they laid Him three days later, never to die again.
Funniest thing I've read all day. Responses like these are why the OP didn't put the thread in religion and politics.

if i could, i would make ours a world of gods, and it would be damn hard for anyone to go hungry, or sad, or run out of room. but you can't trust people, you can't even trust yourself. if only one person could be given that power, i would only give it to them in a moment of crisis where only someone all powerful could stop it. and in any case, if you need someone to be given that amount of power, it might as well be you, because no one is incorruptible, not even the most humble man in the world, so...

Yes, and I shall choose MICHAEL BAY!

oka, being serious, i would say no. I like ot think of my self as being religious to a degree, and that seems to go against the First Commandment. Now, I may eat meat occasionally on lenten Fridays, I may hve some rather blasphemous thoughts, but I try not to break the Big Ten and the Golden One.

Besides that, giving any human that and saying you're all powerful and can do anyhting and no one can stop you seems like a recipe for disaster.

Nope! I'm the only one I can trust with omnipotence. Then again, if I obtained godhood, I wouldn't really change much about the world. I'd use it to show off and goof around.

In any event, if I could make myself a god, I'd still probably deny it. Omnipotence is the only fun part about it. Omniscience and omnipresence kind of ruin everything.

I would not let this happen if the choice fell to me. While this person may have the power of a god they are still only human and will eventually fall to their desire and temptations.

Eliminating human struggle is unethical at best, it's what forces us to better ourselves.

Invariably, a god would realize this. They would also realize that eternity is very bland when you're better than anyone else forever. I'd assume that any god would probably have the old testament all over again.

Regular obliteration? Fuk yea!

Religion, creating a god from humanity's mind, however, is necessary. It keeps humility and unity. Those that are not religious must invent their own rules or become quite lost.

"When you do things right, people won't be sure if you've done anything at all"

-Futurama, paraphrased a little.

Yeah, I just wouldn't do anything noticeable. You can't really cure man's problems, you could try, but eventually you'd just get sick of humanity. I would do little things here and there and just watch humanity save/destroy itself. I guess that's because I've always found humanity in general to be the closest thing to an existing god.
